Laura,
As you know I have to go up to Grayling in the fall to close down our cottage, but October may be too late for that. So October may be a possibility for us.

There's a good possibility I can be there with the Globetrotter and my 5 year old co-pilot. Weather forecast and other plans at home will play into last minute plans most likely but it sounds like a great trip. If I could get my wife to go that would be really good! Little or no chance of that though
Keep me posted with details if you can!

We are headed down to Green Bay today to buy supplies for new cushions and curtains. My mom is coming up next week to make them for us. Ginger should be looking spiffy for the rally. Who needs an intact floor or plumbing when you have fabulous upholstery, right?

Well, unless you're plannin' on doing a lot of time sitting either on the "throne" or on the floor, upholstery might be more comfortable of an evening. Then again, working plumbing is nice. Tough call! Hope we get to see you folks there.

Cool Jess we will finally get to see the Airstream! Nice meeting you albeit a very short visit at the MD rally. Looking forward to spending more time in October.
I thought I would try to put up some more teasers for the rally. This is going to be so good.
First the map for Wilderness State Park, there are two campgrounds one on the beach and the other in the woods. Then the link.
Wilderness State Park, Carp Lake Michigan- A Michigan State Park
Then some Mackinaw Island pictures, the bridge, one of the boat lines, a scenic view and many buggies and wagons. If you have your bike you can bring it on the boat and ride it on the island or rent one there, walk or take a ride.

There's a butterfly house, tours through the island, lots of great places to eat, or shop, and the Grand Hotel ($10.00 entrance and dress code after 5:00 p.m.)

I'm looking forward to going over to the Island. Grady used to work over there when he was in college. His pet name for the place was "Mackitraz". Very unflattering for such a lovely place.

Laura
As you maybe figured this will be to late in the season for us to travel that far north. I kinda figure "MISS KITTY" will be in her winter quarters by the first of OCT .
We would love to come and see what MaryLou has never seen and I haven't seen since I was very young.
Maybe next time

Counting the days!
Laura thank you for the surprise in the mail. I love it! Have to find a place of honor in the AS to display my new toy.
Someone was telling me about omlet in a bag and it sounds neat. Maybe we could do that and toast one morning. Anyone have a burner or hot plate? And I would love to do the pie iron pies and pizzas one night.
Would we be we having late lunch/earlysupper on the island or having a potluck? There are places in town we could grab a bite or get pizza when we get back too as an option.

Carol I never went to bed!!! got into photos of our trip and then got to thinking about this Rally.....
I have posted a big big Maybe Laura. I just don't know what is in store with my Mothers health right now. If I am needed at home then I will have to pass.
But I will plan to be there otherwise.
So tell me the scoop - I gather the upper loop is the Pines Campground??
Are there going to be sites grouped or are we to just book what we can - or just show up as I am sure there will be no problem in just pullin in at that time of year???
How are we getting across to the Island - Ferry, Bridge or is Steph and Dave taking us over in their Yak?
Will hold off on the Kayak - until I get to see the weather forecast closer to the departure date.
If we have a small group - it might be a lot less hassle and outside coldness to have dinner on the Island??? what do you think. could be like an earlier dinner and then when we get back we could do the desserts. I like Carol's pie idea that would be great around the campfire - anyone know how to make liquor icecream??? or we could just do the whip cream in a can and pour the liquors of choice over top
Is this the omelet in a bag you mentioned Carol????
We just tried this for the first time at the Region 1 Rally held over in Prince Edward Island. Peter and I had never heard of it before - but then we are not yet big rally goers. What a great fun and different breakfast/brunch idea. I can spear head the omelets if that is our choice of say Sunday Breakfast??? I have one of those little Round BBQ's that burn anything you use as a grill - but makes a great large pot boiler Have a big enough pot lightweight aluminum too.
Package of zip lock bags and ingredients for an omelet and we are all set.
We could look at the Breakfast being the pot luck instead of the dinner - that way we would not be rushing off the Island and preparing food after a long day of touring and cycling with soar butt syndrome. Standing would be required to warm butts and Carol's Pies Yum I can taste them allready...
Just my suggestions - will go along with what ever majority want.... prefer easy though since I will not have my chef with me
I can not wait to see all and meet those I have not met yet.....no time to get a new batch of anything ready for this Rally I am afraid - time to sample the UP wines
Laura - will work on the Rally Logo - as you requested just the bridge and maybe a rivet or two there were a few bridges posted and I found some more on a tourist site - so I will look at that when I wake up tomorrow.

Upper Loop
Laura, we need some clarification on the upper loop. Are we camping on the North loop of the Lakeshore campground or in the woods in the Pines campground? Perhaps you could post what campsite numbers you are designating for the rally area., i.e. 18-51. Some are narrow with trees so I suggest everyone check the site descriptions.
Sharon the only way to the island is by ferry, until it freezes then you can snowmobile. The bridge does not connect the island to the mainland.

Interesting - where does the bridge go then?
In the one picture is there cars on it or just people?
Of course these might be totally stupid questions - but then I am a double whammy not from the State or the big C
