Late September gathering at Turkey Run SP , Marshall,IN

There seemed to be some interest at the Moraine View rally about meeting in sept at Turkey Run State park in Indiana. I just checked their website and alot of sites are available for the weekend of Sept 18 and Sept 25.
So far we would go on either of those.

Turkey Run is in a very scenic part of northwest Indiana. It is in Parke county, home of the most surviving covered bridges in the country. The park has a really nice campground, a lodge with a great restaurant, a nature center and awesome rugged hiking trails.

Please reply if you are interested so we can pick a date.

I will look into what I can do, but it is a ways off. There is the Airstreams in the Wilds going on the weekend of the 18th, so you may loose out on folks attending that rally.

Nice to start your own rally after attending a couple....good for you.

The 18th is also just 1 week after the caravan so we are more interested in the 25th. That is the day after Laura's 21st birthday so we may be celebrating it there. We'll see what everyone else wants to do. There were quite a few people interested when we started talking about it this afternoon (You had already left). Most of us have been there before.

Hello fellow Hoosier, we are up for a Rally close to home! Either weekend is okay for us.

I am a lifelong Illinoisan, but hubby was born in Indiana and lived there until he was 10. He still has cousins in Indianapolis and even some distant relatives in Mooresville. Small world huh!

As soon as we get more replies we will set one of those dates. Then it will be up to each party to reserve a spot. There will be some discussion about reserving spots since it is a large campground and you have to be careful and read the descriptions when picking a site. There are alot of great ones, but there are also alot of sites with problems like pads that are very sloping or electrical boxes that are way back in the trees. Definitely bring your extra power cords!

I think we could make either date. You can make reservations at Indiana State Parks and if you need to cancel, it only costs you $10.

Late September gathering at Turkey Run SP , Marshall,IN

It is too early for me to know my schedule, but Turkey Run is one of my favorite parks -- will always remember camping there in the family truck camper back in the late 1960s during the Covered Bridge Festival. Hopefully, my schedule will permit me to attend.

Wish we could attend. Will be in Maine long before mid-September. So fun to meet and visit with you all.

I'll be at the Airstream in The Wilds Rally on the 18th but would love to attend if Turkey Run is the 25th. Three weekend - three rallies.

I had forgotten about the Wild's rally. Since we don't want to interfere with that and since most of the other replies have said that they are good for either, it looks like we should go for the 25th. We just need to have Roger get a couple of days off and then I will book our site. We like alot of the wooded sites, but there are also quite a few out in the open for those who use their satellite dishes. We will probably go there Weds afternoon or thursday depending on how many classes Laura decides to skip.

I forgot to post the website. Duh! www.turkeyrunstatepark.com This will take you to the reservation site. Read the site descriptions carefully, as there are some that are not very well suited for trailers because they are very sloping and/or the electric box is way over in the trees. This is the only thing I don't like about this park. On our June trip there last year we had to go buy an extension cord. Our neighbors had to use a 100' cord. They were in a tent and the shared box was at the far right side of our site.

I was just looking at the reservation website. It looks like there are four sections of the campground with electric. Shady lane is pretty much full. Sugar Ridge has sites available, but all spread apart. There's a small block in Turkey Hollow, but it says it's a high traffic area. There are plenty of open sites near each other in Twin Oaks. Any suggestions on which sites we should start reserving?

We'll be in Kentucky

We'll have to miss the Turkey Run gathering this September. We'll be spending a couple of weeks in the Owensboro, Ky area during that timeframe.

See you at Cape to Cairo!

Nancy

Sites 38-65 are all open in one nice block but the dump station is at the end of the curve.

Here's an overhead view.
