Kentucky Rally?

My wife and I are fairly new to the AS community.

Does anyone know of any gatherings coming up in the near future in the KY area? I see the northern Ohio folks are fairly active.

Not so much looking for a rally – I work and my schedule is problematic - as some folks to hang out with and share a few stories over a weekend.

I was hoping this post would generate a little interest. I would be, however this fall is very busy. Maybe something in the spring??

We were hoping to go to land between the lakes and camp this fall but it didn't work out. That is still on the agenda...possibly for next year.

We just camped this weekend at Lake Barkely (near LBL) and it was fantastic. Great campground, great lake, great lodge, pools, boat rentals, etc. Very pretty and hilly. Plenty of trails for hiking and cycling.

We are pretty busy until Spring but would be up for a KY rally then.

Headed thata way

We have a reunion in Nashville on the 6/7 of Oct and then head for LBL to visit more family. If anything is happening or sites to recommend - we'll take them. Still fleshing out the trip.

I have seriously considered hosting a "Rocking and Boondocking" rally in the area near Kentucky Lake. Would have to be spring or fall before the temps were too high.

I know this isn't Kentucky, but there is a fairly LARGE gathering of forum folks in central Illinois. This year will be the 6th annual Midwest Rally. I think we had well over 20 units. We took up nearly half the campground and almost all the spots that were able to be reserved.

Here is the link to this year's gathering:

I'm still trying to get a trip to LBL planned for this year. It is amazing how quickly the year fills up and it is only February. Camping at the LBL parks opens March 1st. I was hoping to get to go in March but DH's work won't allow time off then and my work picks up in May so it might be fall. I wanted to go see the eagles before they all leave. Work is nice for gas money but sure gets in the way sometimes.

Craig,
Growing up in Southern Indiana, I was taught to understand that the LBL extended north past Eddyville, KY.
I was told that is was the land impounded by the TVA and Army Corp of Engineers when they dammed up the Tennessee River to the west to form Kentucky Lake and the Cumberland River to the east form Barkley Lake. Is this correct or have I been misinformed? After spending the better part of my life fishing those lakes, I do agree that it is quite a beautiful place to recreate. I can think of no better place to hold an AS rally that's for sure!

You are correct. The lbl runs from eddyville / lake city on the north side (in KY) to around the dover area in TN if the map on the web site is correct. It covers a pretty large area.

Actually we are both right. I was thinking West to East, Dover to Paris Landing on the southern side because this is the entrance from the TN. side while deer hunting. Since I deer hunt on the TN. side, I wasn't thinking how much farther into KY. the peninsula goes. You can run the Trace north all the way to Lake City and Interstate 24. Eddyville and Kuttawa, KY. would be the northernmost part of LBL.
