Just spent 5 1/2 of those hours scrubbing our Airstream. She'll be water streaked and spotted and unpolished, but clean for the rally I couldn't believe all the gunk we got off her. As the saying goes, she cleans up good!

Big Brother supposedly developed the software that "took it away", but that's cool; I've had enough Karma to last me another few life times!

......makes me wonder what I did back when I was Cleopatra to deserve all of this karma today.. but I know I will NEVER wear that toga again, (probably has something to do with my bad karma, now)

Silent? WHO has to be silent? there's no one around to read us our rights.

(I took a quick look at our demographics, and we look pretty compatible.. I didn't note any peace officers)

Updated weather promises a 30% chance of isolated or scattered showers and thundershowers on Friday and Saturday. 40% chance on Sunday. Looks like we may be in a typical summer type pattern with clear mornings and clouds building by afternoon. Stay loose, bring rain gear if necessary, and extra pair of shoes if the feet get wet.

Camp ground is on good ground, lots of grass and paved parking pads for the most part. We shouldn't have any issues with mud.

My old boss use to say "..if it aint raining, it aint trining...." . Can you tell he did a long strech in the service. I learned from the last rain filled camp out a month ago. Extra shoes and soxs. Dry feet are happy feet, and happy feet keep you warm.

June 2004 Midwest Rally is Set!

Greetings All!

I thought that I might share some observations about the main approach routes to LeRoy (Moraine View State Park) from my travels this past week. Traveling Southeast from the Interstate 74/Interstate 80 intersection on Interstate 74, you will encounter three areas of construction on I-74 before the normal construction at Bloomington/Normal:
*The Mississippi River Bridge is experiencing periodic lane closures for regular maintenance and reconstruction of entry/exit ramps.
*The Rock River Bridge and I-280 Cloverleaf continue to have a variety of construction projects resulting in lane closures and some detours.
There isn't a good route that I am aware of that avoids the two above construction zones that can prove to be time consuming bottlenecks - - there are several that I take on a regular basis, but trying to direct anyone unfamiliar with the country roads could prove worse than enduring the construction zones.
*The I-74 reconstruction project through Peoria continues.
This is an easy construction zone to avoid. Be sure to take the marked "Through Truck Detour" along I-274 - - even without the construction issues this is a much more efficient means of getting around Peoria.

Through Bloomington/Normal on I-74, you will encounter the usual construction zones with reduced lane width and lane closures. Again, this is one of those areas where detouring through town may be more risky than continuing on the Interstate - - if you aren't accustomed to dealing with the I-74/I-55 Interchange at the East edge of Bloomington be prepared for the left exit - - the traffic can be rather unforgiving of an RV trying to make a last minute merge.

For those who will be approaching from the East using West bound I-74, there is only one trouble spot that I noted (between LeRoy and Champaign). There is bridge/overpass construction in the four miles just before the LeRoy exit - - the points at which the lane narrows and switches is dangerous for RVs (IMHO). The lane just prior to the barricades is very uneven and undulating - - it gave me a fright just driving my Suburban through at 40 MPH.

Between the Illinois/Missouri state line and Champaign on I-57 the traveling is much better than last year (IMHO). The bridge construction with the uneven undulating lane detours has been completed by all appearances. There is a rather long stretch of asphalt overlay in progress that is generally North of Mattoon through a point a few miles North of Arcola. There is one section of North bound I-57 from Cairo to just north of Mounds (Exits 1 through 22) that can produce some unpleasant sensations - - the roadbed has ruts in the asphalt that tend to produce a sensation that is very similar in feeling to YAW but it is the ruts in the surface of the road causing the tow vehicle and trailer to track differently.

I mention these areas where there might be some travel concerns due to the news of an accident that a fellow Vintage Airstream owner had on Sunday. As those of you who also belong to or read Hunter's Airstream List on Yahoo may have already read that Bob Patterson had a near tragic accident at one of these lane restrictions with undulating surface while traveling in Ohio on Sunday. This type of construction zone has long been a concern of mine as I have feared just such an accident - - in fact I often take alternate routes once I realize there is one of these construction zones on my regular route (I-74 E to I-57 S to IL 146 E) from the Quad Cities to Union County IL.

I will be traveling this route again on Wednesday to retrieve my Minuet and head back to LeRoy for the Rally (I am in Union County as I write this note).

Kevin
