Exclamation Jan '09 Mexico Rally

I was thinking about a east coast trip along the Gulf leaving Brownsville.

Perhaps 6-8 weeks.

I want to limit it to perhaps 10.

Checking interest of such a Caravan or rally?

ooh- interested, at least at $3 a gallon! I was thinking anyway of spending a bit of next winter on south padre, what's a few more miles further south? I wonder if there's any boondocking along the way to keep the overall price down a little.

awesome caravan idea!

there was an a/s group (in 2 waves) that went from b-ville to panama just a few years ago.

their route and trip info is available to use IF folks are serious 'bout this.

it could be a great trip.

cheers

2 air if I can ask you do do a little scouting around for the info, I'd appreciate.

I would expect to do some boondocking on the beach.

I was thinking after the Can Opener possibly leaving 1-15 or 1-20

Do you think 10 is a manageable number?

10 units or so, allows for flexibility, but still provides the 'group' feel...

i think the last panama caravan had around 20+ units, but traveled in 2 waves...

give me about 2-3 weeks to check on the past trip info...

just left topsail and i'll be on the road another week or so.

cheers
2air'

of course, ya don't really have to follow the past trip, but the info might be useful...

Ok, no rush we have plenty of time.

Also wanted to mention, I will have satellite Internet for all to use, so we won't be that isolated.

Great to see so much interest so soon.

I am looking for all of us to work out the details as a team, I'm not a wagon master

Please do research on the points of interest along the east coast.

Need to know where we stop if there are RV parks and if we can boondock etc.

I don't think we'll find any Walmarts.

We need to put together a list of supplies and spare parts.

Word of caution, make sure and check with the state department for travel advisories. All along the Texas-Mexico border, we have recently been seeing increasing serious "trouble" because of the drug trade (El Paso-Juarez, Laredo-Nuevo Laredo, McAllen-Pharr-Reynosa and Brownsville-Matamoros) and battles between rival drug gangs. This is spilling over to the American side of the border. Thefts of trucks (Ford & Dodge esp.) have been on the rise and the local paper, Austin-American Statesman last week said the Austin Police Dept. put out a caution regarding these thefts. Apparently, the large trucks are stripped down inside and used to carry folks across the border illegally. Really weird.

Also, you will have to have a valid passport not only to cross over, but to return back, this is a change.
