IL - Back to the Basics Rally, May 6

Back to the Basics Rally
Hidden Springs State Forest
Strausburg, IL 62465
618-644-3091
May 6-8, 2011

Hidden Springs State Forest is a beautiful little campground that is all but forgotten. Most campers reserve sites at the two State Parks and three Army Corps Campgrounds on Lake Shelbyville leaving Hidden Springs as a quiet, unspoiled gem.

Join us for the Back to the Basics Rally on May 6th. Back to the Basics is a fitting name because Hidden Springs has no hookups and no electricity. There isn't even a shower house, however water and a dump station are available on site.

Don't be scared off because there are no hookups. Airstreams are very well equipped for boondocking. The campground is well shaded and air conditioning should not be necessary in early May. Bring your percolator for coffee and get ready to have a good time.

No reservations are accepted, but none are needed. There are 28 sites available and they don't even fill up on a holiday weekend.

Be sure to visit the rally calendar listing to RSVP.

Wow. This rally is coming up really fast. Only two weekends away. Here are some brainstorming thoughts.

I'm thinking about bringing my smoker and letting a pork butt roast smoke all day on Saturday. Then we could build some side dishes around the pork to make a really nice potluck.

The weekend after this rally is my WBCCI May Rally where I'm doing a fish fry. We could do a fish fry this weekend too if anyone is interested.

Just thinking. Let's get some discussion going.

You can borrow our fryer and even take the weekend if needed.

I am unsure if I will be able to attend. I have a final on the 9th and the 11th. That Sunday needs to be an intense study day. Perhaps I may drive up for Friday and Saturday, but will bring my notes with me.

Hope we have good weather. Such a beautiful, beautiful place.

As we will be at both rallies I would go for pork butt rather than fried fish two weekends in a row. I will decide on food to bring when we get a little closer and know what the temps are going to be.

greetings

we would like to be at this rally; however, we are on our caravan to alumaplooza and our route puts us at John James Audubon State Park at Henderson, KY on May 6th. We are looking forward to the Moraine View rally after alumaplooza...then we will be on our caravan to Baker City, OR for the 4th of July

Hit enter too soon before I realized it didn't make sense. I meant he could keep it to use the next weekend at Sandusky. We are planning to be there from Thursday to Saturday if the weather is good.

Only one more week. I'm really looking forward to this rally.

As of right now, the weather forecast is for highs in the upper 60s and lows in the lower 50s. Can it get any better for boondocking?

For those of you traveling from farther north, the trees have completely leafed out and everything is green here now.

We are having some issues with the truck. It took us all day today to get home from Paducah. Of course it finally started when the tow truck arrived. We are really hoping to get it fixed before Thursday but if not we may miss the party.

Had a great trip otherwise. 3 days of GREAT weather. Roger's brother and SIL came down 2 nights. Everthing perfect till yesterday. We are thankful at least that we did get it home. Now to see what an ECM costs for an Excursion.

Jill is probably out too so I hope you guys can get the truck running. If not, it looks like we'll be down to just two units.

Oh, too bad! Try to get over, if you can, guys. It is a beautiful place.

We will be there, with plenty of firewood and homemade cookies.

Lily is looking forward to playing with Duncan!

If we get there with the truck, our nephew David is interested in coming. He's heard about the potlucks and has never been camping with us before. I have reminded him more than once that there will be no electricity ( he is addicted to video games)and that I will not entertain him 24/7. He loves to play chess so I am asking for him if any of you guys would want to play.
