Many rallies coming up this fall. Julie and David do a wonderful job hosting the Hunting Island Hiatus and at a beautiful beach location. Do include it when you are making your plans for Nov. It at be full but keep an eye out for a cancellation.

Reba and I have cancelled our reservation due to a conflict that has come up. Sorry we will miss all of you. We were looking forward to a good time. Hopefully, the weather will not close the campground as like last year. Thanks to Julie and David for their hard work setting this event up. Look forward to seeing all of you at the next one.

In Case You Were Wondering.....

I just spoke with SC State Parks representative about the status of Hunting Island. They just received information regarding re-opening. The current plan is to remain closed through 10/31, opening on 11/1. She said to check back for updates, but that is the current plan.

Same here. Also got a phone call (recorded message) stating the same. Due to damage and debris, closed through 12/31.

Just spoke to someone from South Carolina Parks 866-345-7275, and they said Hunting Island campgrounds are going to be closed until at least December 31st. Maybe a good time to find a new spot?

Well guys it looks like Hurricane Matthew may have spoiled our camping plans. As most of you may know the South Carolina coast was directly hit by a category 2 hurricane this past weekend. Hunting Island State Park suffered tremendous damage. Reportedly there were over three hundred trees that have fallen along with severe flooding and erosion. We were hoping that the park would open next month and we could attend our rally. We too received a message this morning about cancellations and returned deposits. Julie and I will discuss the option of rescheduling and/or cancelling completely. Two years in a row we've had to cancel because of weather. I know we were all looking forward to this gathering. It's always good to see old friends and meet new ones.

Sad so much damage has happened to Hunting during this terrible storm. It would be nice to somehow work out a rally somewhere, even if we have to dry camp.

I agree. I think South Carolina parks need all that they can get right now. Can we find another one of their state parks that is inland and still open?

The hard part is finding something on short notice that can accommodate 20 to 30 rigs. Any suggestions?

Doing a Reserve America search in SC yielded 6 SC State Parks that have at least 30 sites still available. I am not familiar with these parks, but as a backup to Hunting Island perhaps we could make one of them work. The list includes Dreher Island, Hamilton Branch, Lake Greenwood, Lake Hartwell, Oconee and Sesquicentennial.
