Gathering in Puerto Penasco, Mex mid-May 2019

Non WBCCI Airstream gathering in Safe Puerto Penasco, Mex. right on the Sea of Cortez, full hook ups/gated RV Park $20/nite 7 nites. 15 spaces avail.

My Region was supposed to sponsor this, but they don’t want to be bothered, so I am going to do this myself, since I already have made reservations. I’m covering my own expenses, unlike a WBCCI event. I will be the wagon master to/from Puerto Penasco. We can all meet in Ajo, AZ the night before.

I also created an awesome website for this http;//holarockypoint.wbcci.net

Have you considered the temps in May?

We have camped at Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument annually in January, February, and March since 2013. This year we were there in mid April and the temps were in the low 90s. Participation in your rally may be a hard sell if the temps are well into the 90s. I suggest you might choose a late January early February time frame for temps in the 70s. Good luck.

Traveling to Rocky Point is safe. The U.S. Gov’t allows its employees on business to travel there during daylight hours. Puerto Penasco is only 60 south of the border, the road is great and better than the road in AZ getting to the border. Crime is higher in Phoenix than in Rocky Point. You need not be concerned about travel to there. We will convoy down from the border & back. You are welcome to come along. I have been to Rocky Point for the last 18 years. I’ve never had any problems, nor have any of my friends. If you want any more articles or reports, I can send them to you.

We just got back from Rocky Point on Thursday, had a great time . The water was too rough to take out my boat thanks to Rosa, but still a good time.
Good place to get a Mexican overview and eat good food cheap.

Dates are May 17-25, if you want to convoy down with me from Ajo, AZ.
Correction on website to look at - HolaRockyPoint.wbcci.net
Temperatures in Mid May are daytime low 90’s/nitetime upper 60’s. There is usually a nice ocean breeze during the day, so it feels about 10 degrees cooler.
This is a non-WBCCI gathering.

Hola Rocky Point, Mex. May 17-25, 2019

Puerto Penasco (aka Rocky Point) is right on the Sea of Cortez, just 62 miles south of US Border. The place is safer than Phoenix or Tucson.
We will be staying for 7 nites at Playa Bonita RV Park, which is right by the ocean, gated, guarded full hookups, 50 amp. svc. $20/nite. = $140/wk.
Nice restaurant w/big patio on-site.
Lots of things to do, sunset cruise, fishing charter, ATV rentals, golf, great seafood, shopping etc. I’ve been there 10 times over last 18 yrs. I know all the best restaurants, & things to do.

I can send you tons of info via email PDF with additional links.
Your auto insurance coverage applies, but you are required by Mexico to buy additional liability coverage, which includes medical evac. Cost: approx $70 thru AAA.
This is a non-WBCCI event.

Could you help someone who has never been to Mexico, much less taken a vehicle and trailer there understand what would be first of all required to do so, then secondly what would be prudent to do?
Otherwise people like me just go Huh?
As you have posted here and otherwise I get it that you have done your homework. But, and a big BUT is going to Mexico with a tow vehicle and trailer is very different than going to Canada (which I have done a number of times).
So any insight on your part as to what is required beyond "I have reservations at a safe place" might help boost participation.

Info on traveling to Mexico

I’m happy to help. Most of your questions can be answered on the website I created when it was going to be an all-inclusive National Special Event.
http://HolaRockyPoint.wbcci.net Click on each tab for info. If that doesn’t answer your questions, contact me at RhodesTeamCaravans@gmail.com
Actually, just going 60 miles into Mexico is like driving from Seattle to Vancouver.
You can’t bring guns etc. Your auto insurance is in effect, but Mexico requires you buy extra liability insurance, just for the time period you will be there, approx. $70. There’s a tab for that on the website. We would love to have you join us. This is a non-WBCCI event. You are responsible for own expenses, but I have negotiated deals from quality restaurants & vendors.

The above website has been taken down by WBCCI for some reason.
I have replaced it with a page on my Realtor website http://az-homes-online.com/Rocky_Point_Travel where you can get all the info on our gathering in Puerto Penasco, Mex. May 18-25, 2019.

Pure speculation here - but as yours is a non-WBCCI event, they probably weren’t agreeable to having information about it posted on their domain name.

Well again - it’s purely speculation on my part, we have no way of knowing absent some input from the WBCCI caravan folks. To go all BrBa dramatic for effect - if I were offering a caravan through AZ/NM to sample Los Pollos Hermanos cuisine alongside the world’s purest crystal blue meth, I doubt WBCCI would welcome my using their domain to publicize it - even if targeted for members of which I’m one....

That *extreme* and silly TV show illustration aside - my guess goes back to the liability question and our overly litigious society....takes a lot of the fun out of everything.

Looks like OP has several folks signed up for his unaffiliated caravan - you’re still allowed to have fun even if the lawyers say you can’t (no offense intended toward the lawyers among us...). [emoji3]

Uninformed Decision

Actually, National officers said their insurance brokers had no problem with the event and were going to make it an NSE(National Special Event). Neither happened, it got “dumped” on R11 & they wouldn’t vote on it because they considered it a Caravan that didn’t meet the National rules, but was not allowed in the past. Many opinions, but short on facts. The mandatory Mexican Liability Travel Insurance That one must buy for the time period you are there covers $300K in Liability coverage, $25K in legal assistance, Travel assistance, $25K in medical expenses, including medivac. Also, because Puerto Penasco is within the 70 mi. Inclusion Zone from the US border, your own auto insurance coverage is in effect. I hope this clears up the insurance issues being brought up.
So far I still have 10 spaces open, so come on down & have a good time in Rocky Point, May 17-25, 2019. We are planning a whole week of quality activities. View the event on my website http://az-homes-online.com/Rocky_Point_Travel

Your rally is at the same time a large group of us fellow Streamers go to Playa Bonita. We have 12 rigs on the beachfront at the same time as your rally. There will be a lot of Airstreams there.

I was wondering if these two threads/Rally's were going to hook up.

Yeah!

Sounds like you guys will have a blast and good opportunity to meet new streamers and take great pictures.
