Picked up two leaf spring assemblies and all the other shackles, parts, and bolts yesterday. Already found a few minor differences like the standard bolt size, leaf width, and axle diameter have all changed slightly since 1959. But I'll make it work.

It's prep time weekend. We have one canoe on the truck and will pick another up on Wednesday.

Does anyone need outdoor rec gear? I can get most things at the rental place on base pretty cheap. Paddles, life jackets, canoes, kayaks, etc..

Cara, if the offer is still open, we will most likely park at your place on Wednesday night. We should be at the campground by noon on Thursday.

Looking forward to some cool weather!

For those who are reaching the campground on Thursday, it would be cool if we can all stick to the same area. I'm thinking as close to the hiking trail down to the river as possible, or alternatively if there is a certain area that has a lot of long spaces open near each other.

Just a thought. We'll be arriving Friday morning, with a new set of leaf springs on the trailer, and a couple kayaks for fun.

If I'm the first one up, I'll look around and grab a good spot for us all.

Does anyone have a good telescope? I've got a feeling that there will be lots of stars up there.

The Forrest Service page says there's a campfire prohibition, but Exhibit A has Trapper Springs Campground as exempt. I'll give the Ranger a call to confirm, but looks like we'll be able to have a campfire.

Let us know what you find out. Last time I spoke with them, they said it was just campfires outside of designated pits, i.e. anywhere in the backcountry. Trapper Springs was OK. I've got a couple piles of wood ready to go.

Peter's right. Campfires are allowed in the campground.

There was a meteor shower that peaked last week. If we stay up late enough, we might still see a decent show.
Also a reminder to some...like my husband.....we'll be at 8,000 feet. It will be quite cold at night. I spent the night at Huntington Lake (7,000 feet) this week, the high temp was 80 but it got down into the 40's at night.
We'll bring firewood too.

We're shooting for a Thursday afternoon arrival also. Maybe the Pratt's and us can claim a rally area. What's the current trailer count?

We'll be happy to help stake out a rally area. I think the trailer count is at 6.

6 trailers according to the calendar, and I think 5 according to this thread. Looks like 3 arriving Thursday night, and the rest Friday.

Don't forget about the drinks and desserts on Friday night and the potluck on Saturday!

I also discovered that you can purchase fishing licenses online if you don't want to stop off at a store. https://www.ca.wildlifelicense.com/InternetSales/
1 and 2 day passes you can print yourself, and for annual passes (which are only good through 12/31/13), you can print out a temporary version while they mail you the pass.

What is everyone bringing for the potluck or are we just going to see what happens?
Does everyone like basil pesto?

Sounds good Cara! Think I'm gonna do Deviled Eggs for Friday, and Chili for Saturday.

Has anyone else checked the weather up there lately? It showing an expected high of 65, but the current temp is 95 Showed the same kinda discrepency yesterday also. That's a full 20 degrees hotter than the current temps at Huntington Lake. Surely that can't be right?

Well this seems to agree with the weather.com prediction:
NOAA National Weather Service

But I have no idea why it is so abnormally hot today. Maybe the thermometer isn't calibrated right. I can't imagine it is that hot at 8000' with the night time temps going so low.

Here's a link to local weather stations: WunderMap® | Interactive Weather Map and Radar | Weather Underground

The closest one is in Dinkey. It shows highs in the mid-80s but its only at 5700'.

If things go as planned, I'll bring trout to the potluck. If not, spaghetti for all my friends!

Kevin talked to the Ranger, she said it was getting up to 75 during the day, and as low as 39 at night. So don't forget some warm clothes for the evenings. It's gonna be great getting out of this hot Bakersfield weather!

I'm thinking we are gonna have at least 7 trailers attending. We're leaving in the morning, so we will probably be arriving around 2 or so. Safe travels everyone!

We're leaving Fresno around 1130. We should be up there in a few hours.

Another successful outing! We loved Courtright so much, we might go back next month before the campground closes for the season.
We checked out the second loop of Trapper Springs (sorry, Peter, we didn't mean to cut you off on our way out) The sites in the second loop are tighter, narrower and narrower roads which would make backing in even more tricky.
We stopped at McKinley Grove on the way out.
We're totally down for this trip next year! It was great seeing everyone again!

Thank you for coming!

Thank you everyone who was able to make it out! I plan to repeat this trip at some point, or maybe some variation of it. I think next time I'm going to make sure I can come up for 3 or more full days, and maybe try to bring a small sailboat. That lake would have been a lot more fun with more than paddle power.

Also, I am having some rally stickers made for both this trip and the Boondocking for Geodes adventure. If you would like one, shoot me a message with a mailing address and which stickers you want.

Hope to see most of you at Rivernook!
