Kevin talked to the Ranger, she said it was getting up to 75 during the day, and as low as 39 at night. So don't forget some warm clothes for the evenings. It's gonna be great getting out of this hot Bakersfield weather!

I'm thinking we are gonna have at least 7 trailers attending. We're leaving in the morning, so we will probably be arriving around 2 or so. Safe travels everyone!

We're leaving Fresno around 1130. We should be up there in a few hours.

Another successful outing! We loved Courtright so much, we might go back next month before the campground closes for the season.
We checked out the second loop of Trapper Springs (sorry, Peter, we didn't mean to cut you off on our way out) The sites in the second loop are tighter, narrower and narrower roads which would make backing in even more tricky.
We stopped at McKinley Grove on the way out.
We're totally down for this trip next year! It was great seeing everyone again!

Thank you for coming!

Thank you everyone who was able to make it out! I plan to repeat this trip at some point, or maybe some variation of it. I think next time I'm going to make sure I can come up for 3 or more full days, and maybe try to bring a small sailboat. That lake would have been a lot more fun with more than paddle power.

Also, I am having some rally stickers made for both this trip and the Boondocking for Geodes adventure. If you would like one, shoot me a message with a mailing address and which stickers you want.

Hope to see most of you at Rivernook!

Another fantastic Rally! Great job Peter

Thanks for taking us to a place we'd have never found with out you, can't wait to see where you plan the next one!

The weather was beautiful, the water clear and blue, the stars amazingly bright, and the company could not have been better

Looks like it was beautiful! My schedule is conflicting with everything these days. Next time, I hope.

Looks like we missed a great boondocking rally! How crowded was the campground? Maybe we will be able to get up there sometime in the future and enjoy this beautiful mountain lake. Please keep us in mind for the next SoCap boondocking event!

Smile Trapper Springs info

This place has been on my radar screen for a while. It's looking likely that we'll actually get there this summer, probably late July. Anyone else want to come?

Which loop has the best sites? We're small, just 16 feet, but any helpful hints as to favorite sites, etc. would be appreciated. I saw a mention earlier in this thread about getting sites close to the path down to the reservoir, but I'm not seeing the path on Google maps satellite view.

I'm in dire need of some mountains and trees. I think Trapper Springs is going to be the antidote to my big city ills.

I have been researching this location for a family trip. PG&E now have an online reservation system in place although it appears to be little used as all the sites I looked at were available for the entire season. Also PG&E now state "no drinking water available".

http://www.pge.com/en/about/environm...ion/index.page

Site dimensions are 35'Lx 20'W and "photos are coming soon".

We just camped here over July 4 weekend. It was so great. We just camped in the dirt where the split in the road is to head to either the Dusy Ershim, or the launch ramp for Courtright. It's free to camp anywhere you can find a spot. We had a few big Class A's and big trailers, so the campground was not an option this trip. We drove through Trapper Springs, though, and it would have been tight to maneuver a big rig. Loop 3 looked the best for the least tight turns. Those well positioned one-foot posts are tough to avoid. There was definitely water available from spigots at the forest service campground at Wishon. Not sure about Trapper, we didn't test that.

But the weather was perfect and the bugs were only bad at sunset. The water was warmer at Wishon, but still not too bad at either lake. Next time it will be for at least a week. That road heading there is a steep one and there were plenty of rigs on the side of the road cooling breaks and cooling engines. And plan on about three hours from Fresno. But there are not many spots in CA where you can leave on Friday of a holiday weekend with no reservations and find a camp spot, so I was pretty happy to learn about this place.
