Lucille is back together

OK, what a day. Had the old axle pulled and waiting on the new axle. Parts kit from INLAND RV arrived at 1030. Yellow Transport called and showed at 1115. Driver even gave me a hand getting the axle under the AS. 2.5 hours later (ALONE AND SCARED) under the trailer, I got the axle in the mount notches and jacked into position. 2 hours of drilling (dull 1/2 bit - borrowed a good one from a neighbor) and the bolts are in. Tires on - very close to the front AL trim (1/4 inch), I will grind the space to 1/2 inch tomarrow with the die grinder. No real issue - it's under the trailer and excess panel material. The axle will prevent the wheel from going forward anyway as it's a torsion axle - it rotates up and back.

This means I'm on - wife is happy (a little tired of all the work - wants to go now). I'm more confident in the ride, no major breakdown on the road with a brke axle. This new one is impressive.

SEE YOU ALL THERE ON THURSDAY (OR FRIDAY). Pack tomarrow and do an oil change in Flo.

$800 for the axle
$94 for the shipping
$60 for the new rims (3)
$40 for the tire transfer
ON VACATION - PRICELESS

WOW!!! The excitement is building!!! We are packing too. We are trying to be careful not to pack too much. This is our first trip and want to have a few creature comforts. Coffee and Wines have been selected. The television is staying home. Canoe and fishing gear is packed. We are planning to stop in Helen to visit family after dropping off the AS on Thursday so we probably won't see everyone 'till Friday. Please everyone...Drive careful.

Thumbs up Ready, Set, GO!!!

Danielle and I are nearly ready to go. We have things at the house pre-packed and ready to transfer to the trailer on Thursday. We'll be leaving work a little early on Thursday afternoon and should arrive at the campground after by 8pm Thursday. After dark... but that's life... anything for a vacation at this point - even if it's just a long weekend. Looking forward to meeting everyone. Stew, chili, low country boil - it all sounds good to us.

See Ya There, Lucius

Way to go, Clancy Boy!

Congratulations on the axel installation. I know that puts your mind at ease. May you get lots of well-deserved sleep tonight.

I've been spending time in the kitchen trying to get as much as possible pre-mixed, roasted, chopped, baked, sautee'd, etc. I'll have some goodies to bring but I don't want to spend my whole weekend in the galley. Hoping to leave Friday by noon, it depends on how busy it is at the hospital and if I'm on call. I'm also taking Hwy 64 along the Ocoee to North Carolina and down.

Swebster, I'm sorry you won't be able to make it, but you have a darn good reason. Karma is on the way for making your daughter's limo dreams come true.

Alan, since SWebster had to cancel out, I called the campground and had my site changed from #4 to where he was, in #1. It's about a 10' longer site.
Besides, I figured you wanted to mess with that map and the roster some more.
Two days - can't wait!!!

I am taking off Friday afternoon, but we can't leave until Jason gets home from MS which is at 4...So we should be rolling by 4:30 or so,,,and up there by 6-7pm if all goes smoothly....of course this is only our second trip in the trailer and the last was only 60 miles round trip...

If it's not one thing it's another....

Ok - I'm leaving in the morning. No problems with the axle. Brakes work great. Will stop in 100 miles to check lug nuts on the new rims.

BUT, hooked up today and the running lights failed to work. Blew the fuse in my truck. Come on but very dim then the fuse blows in about 2 minutes. Brake lights and turn signal lights work great. I have a wire bundle that runs external to the underbelly skin that I know is the guilty party. I will bring my multimeter and have a work day on Friday as I will be getting there on Thursday. I hate this - I must of pulled on it a little and yanked a connection in the underbelly. The PO ran this I guess when he had problems with the wiring. Have to make it in the DAYLIGHT or I will have to pull over.

OK back to packing - SO MUCH STUFF.......

My wife, and now two dogs, are getting excited about camping. I plan to bring my 12 string guitar, but haven't played much lately, and am timid anyway; hoping to get to play sometime though.

We are looking forward to seeing some other Airstreams of various years. We want to buy a newer one for more confident traveling, but need to know more about what to look for, and what to avoid. Some years were known as tail-saggers, and some were known as clear-coat peelers. Curious to get input/feedback from others, and see some at the Georgia Fall Leaf Thing.

See you (y'all, if I can avoid my Illinois roots) Friday afternoon.

Wow, its great to see a few Tradewinds will be at the rally. I'm also looking forward to comparing notes. Clancy Boy, I pray that you and everyone else gets there safely.
The TW and truck is packed, fridge is on, the truck parked right under the coupler and ready to hitch Friday. I'm just finishing some last minute stuff. Yeah, Clancy I agree . . . . SO MUCH STUFF.

Getting psyched! Just back from Boston, tomorrow some food shopping, packing. I'm going to try to depart Marietta around noonish on Friday - arriving around 3ish I guess. My wife will come up separately after picking up our son at school.

This is so cool.

Got in my truck to go to work this a.m.at 6:30 and it had no interior lights, the odometer and speedo were off too. Last time this happened it was low on trans fluid and when this level was brought back up it was all fine again.
Its like its in a 'limp home" or emergency mode? Not sure what's going on, but if it is not able to be straightened out today after work, we may have to drive up in the car and stay nearby. Talk about depressing!
anyone have a clue on this? I posted in the F250 Thread also.

Check your fuses if you haven't already done so. You may not have tail lights either.

The dash and tail lights are on the same fuse on some vehicles so that if the fuse goes and you have no tail lights (when the head lights are on) you will have an indication that something is awry. Otherwise you might not know the tail lights aren't working until someone rear ends you at night. This might not be your problem though, but it is a cheap place to start. I haven't had this problem in over 30 years but I did when installing a CB radio back in the 70's when I broke a fuse and thought it only controled the dash board lights. I found out when I was stopped by a state patrol past curfew for not having tail lights.
