Dr Charles, the 190SL has always been one of my favorite roadsters ever made. The sensuous lines are really a testament to German auto design. I wish I was able to come to Athens and see all of the beauties that will be on display but I'm having awnings installed on the road side and rear of my Airstream and picking it up this week end and staying in a campground near the dealer this week end.

Wish you luck if you are competing and hope you enjoy our N. Georgia early fall weather. It's supposed to be clear and mild this week end...that is if the long range forcast is correct!

Fun Rally with NO agenda

Yes, I know this is supposed to be a FUN rally and will be with all the aluminum in attendance. I just thought that I might bring a few of my cast-offs, A/S related, that somone might need more than I do. Along with a show and tell, open house, possibly, a flea market on Saturday. Just my two cents worth.

Brunswick Stew sounds like a terrific idea! You can count me in, possibly my son, probably not my wife. We'll add a Low Country Boil to share for Saturday night.

I will see if I can take a photo and get you a description. I have not used it or even tried to set it up, it came with my camper.
I also have a center nightstand from the rear twin bedroom if someone wants it. It is too heavy to go with us if no interest in it.

Lastly anyone want a Classic Motorhome Jacket?? I think its sized medium.
Like new shape. Classic moho on the back silk screened.

We expect to arrive Friday at 7 or so, but we are not red - meat eaters.....

I am sure others will be glad to take up that stew offer.. Maybe we can all share a dessert that first night or some after dinner drinks. Getting closer
Maybe they could fix some "RV Stew" for you guys. You know, no meat, just organs!

I thought most Brunswick Stew was made with Chicken.

Hi Mcogger, They are the weight distributing bars that go on your hitch, the ones with a chain on the ends. I don't think you would need them with a 27' but that is up to you. You woulld need around 800 lb.

I think you need them on any size of Airstream except maybe Bambis. But based on the tongue weight of my 30' Safari, I can't imagine not needing them on anything more than 22' for handling. But then again, I haven't towed anything other than my 30' and things like ski boats that don't need them for sure.

M M, Sorry, I dinn't make myself clear. I didn't mean that he didn't need any bars at all. I ment that he doesn't need 1000 lb. bars for a 27ft.

Alan, I have never had that happen I have a pretty good drop coming out of my driveway. Sometimes the bottom of the shank drags if I don't go out on an angle, everytime that happens I think I will cut the bottom off of it then after I get gone I forget it till the next time.

thanks, mine is not a big drop but my motorhome hitch used to scrape, and the trailer seems close but not hitting. I bought the linch pins at Ace Hdware
and ready to roll. Thanks to ClancyBoy for the bars!! I painted em up & they look great.
I am new to using the bars also, have put them on but not towed yet with them. Hope to on this coming Saturday...

I'm sorry, I was the one that misunderstood. I have 1,200 # bars on my 30' and everyone thinks that is too much. I have that heavy so I can carry heavy, up to 1,000#, loads in my truck while I tow my Airstream. If I didn't carry any extra load, I would have gone with 1,000# bars.

There is a lot of debate, however, on whether too big is good or bad. Some think it is better to undersize and others think it ok to oversize the bars. I think it depends on the brand of weight distribution system and bars you have and how they are designed to work. I am less familiar with the traditional spring bar system that uses chains than I am with the Equal-i-zer brand of system that I use. I know the principle of how they work is the same, just a little different in how the achieve the same results.

All that I have read for the traditional chain and bar type system such as the Reese and other similar systems says that the spring bars should be adjusted so that the bars have a slight upward bend. I have the Equal-i-zer brand that has 2" sqaure solid steel "spring bars" that are not going to have any bend, slight or otherwise, unless I have grossly overloaded the system.

Initially I had some problems with the rig meandering all over the road at highway speeds. I contacted Equal-i-zer and they told me it is better to oversize their bars than to undersize them. They also said that the 1,200# bars are not compatible with the 1,000# hitch. The customer service rep told me how to determine if an adjustment in weight distribution is needed and how to adjust for temporary increases in load in the bed of my truck and temporary decreases in load. He also told me how to adjust for permanent increases and decreases in load. The adjustments equate to the "add a link, subtract a link" method for temporary adjustments for the chain systems and the same "add a washer, subtract a washer" method for adjustments to the hitch head for permanent adjustments. As it turned out, the problem I had encountered was simply not enough air in the front and rear tires of my truck. Once I aired up the tires, my handling problems disappeared. I can now handle my truck and trailer combo with two fingers at highway speeds. From a handling stand point, you truely cannot tell it's back there. Word to the wise when purchasing a new 3/4 ton vehicle: dealers let some of the air out of the tires to make them ride softer while they are on the lot so you need to check that first thing when you buy one. It will ride harder, but you will have more control.

I always get a little confused when talking about the chain links and spring bars since most of that conversation is about other brands of hitches. I have to remind myself that the Equal-i-zer brand accomplishes the same thing through a slightly different design.

I hope I haven't added to the confusion.
