I guess we have to set an upper limit for your discription of "A KID". My wife still tells me I'm a kid - I thought all Airstream owners were........

Couldn't agree with you more. We've often said our daughter is the most mature person in our family. Yikes.

We'll have 4 with us. 2 10 year girls - Sarah and Abby, 1 6 yr old boy-Jake and a 6 yr old girl-Lucy. Abby and Lucy belong to a friend of mine. All 4 were with us last spring. When I asked Lucy and Abby's mother about bringing them along, Lucy informed her mother that she would be going to this Rally too! I think she had a good time!

Ours is 17 months. She won't be much fun for the children that will be there but she is Daddy's girl and she does pretty good camping.

Campground around or near Athens, Georgia ?

Rather than begin a new thread, I'm appealing to the forum for a campground recommendation near Athens; beginning next Wed (Sept. 27) through Sun.

Our visit there is not airstream related, nor involved with a Georgia football game (they are playing away at Mississippi next week), but for a car show being held downtown at the Hilton Garden Inn.

The closest commercial campground that might be convenient is the Country Boy RV Park (formerly a KOA in 2001 ?) near Commerce, Ga. and we were able to get a reservation, but it is 19 miles from the headquarter hotel.

Or perhaps 'courtesy parking', which i would gladly pay for, with someone closer to town. We are traveling with an elderly dog so we would need 20 amps., but would not need water or sewer.

Thanks,
Dr. C.

Campground around or near Athens, Georgia ?

Greetings, Campgrounds are limited near the Athens area...you might try Pine Lake RV Campground/5540 High Shoals Rd/Bishop, GA. #706-769-5486. I have heard its nice, but living so close to it, I never stayed there. Its located approx. 9 miles from Athens, not far off 441 South. Hope this helps.

Dr C,

You're welcome to stay at our house in Danielsville. We are about 12 miles from Athens. We have 7.5 acres, 30 amp service & water but no sewer (haven't rigged that yet).

It is sort of a mini-farm with 3 horses, 3 dogs, 3 cats, and 5 ducks on a pond. (Oh yeah, 7 children as well!) I have a gutted '73 Sovereign that I'm working on as well.)

You would be more than welcome.

Alan,

I think we're going to try to come up for the day. Unfortunately, the Sovereign has been neglected and is not roadworthy or campable at this point but I am starting to work on it again.

I was thinking about bringing the boat up but I'm not sure what the water temperature of Lake Chatuge will be. I would definitely be the last time out for the boat this year but I've put a lot of work into it and it'd be nice to get it out one more time.

Anyway, unless something bad happens, we'll be up there for the day. (we'll stay till late in the evening and let the kids sleep on the way home)

Visit to Athens, Georgia

Dear ALANSD, super moderator,

We have graciously accepted the generous offer from Ron Kaes & his family for courtesy parking on their farm in Danielsville, Ga. It is close to Athens, a farm setting like our own; although their inventory of children (7) and barnyard creatures is far in excess of ours.

We have had several visitors who parked at our Indiana home and the mutual benefit is very rewarding. We are now included in the courtesy parking directory, although only here for four months/year.

The car show in Athens is for the <www.190SLgroup.com >, an international group with a common interest in an older model Mercedes-Benz, the 190SL, a two seater manufactured from 1955 to 1963. The October 14, 2005 edition of the Tour of America website, http://tour.airstreamlife.com/weblog/2005/10/, shows a photo of our roadster as taken by our guest, Rich Luhr.

Rich, best known as a Matthew McConaughey look-alike, including but not limited to, boyish charm and rugged handsomeness, also serves as the editor of Airstream Life and is usually accompanied by his charming wife Eleanor and inquisitive daughter Emma.

Chas.

This Just In.........

Hi Group,
I just got access to group sized coffee pots, and a great pancake griddle. I'll plan on bringing them along. Also, since I am planning on arriving on Thursday afternoon, how would you all like to arrive to Brunswick Stew for your evening meal on Friday. It is nice to have dinner waiting after a long drive. Plan to eat around 6:30 PM possibly or whenever you arrive? It will be my contribution to the group. E mail me at westendhousingnc@yahoo.com

if you are interested, so I can get a count of people. Plan to bring your own bowl, spoon, and beverage of choice.
Kevin

thanks for that offer! The coffee pots and all are great ideas...
We expect to arrive Friday at 7 or so, but we are not red - meat eaters.....

I am sure others will be glad to take up that stew offer.. Maybe we can all share a dessert that first night or some after dinner drinks. Getting closer
