GAlveston/Mustang Island/Beach?

We've been covered up in work and family all summer and are just now thinking of camping. We've missed our beach time this summer but it's still hot enough, and school's in session so most of the crowd should be gone, and I'm thinking it's time to head to the beach. Anyone want to join us? I'm open for Galveston Island (where I grew up so I'm a cheap tour guide) or Mustang Island where you can drive on the beach still. Anyone interested in going, I'm thinking a Fri- Sun outing in the next few weeks. Mike

I'm orignally from Deer Park (next door to Pasadena) and spent many of my youth weekends at Gavalston. I have been thinking of heading to the beach also (Corpus Christi is much closer to where we live now), but never seem to find the time. I have to start using my Airstream instead of spending all my time working on it.

I know camping in our Airstream would make my wife happier instead of just looking at it in our backyard.

I've had the same sentiments from my wife, our Airstream was a large yard ornament for 2 years before we finally got it road worthy last summer. I for one thought it was attractive especially since i put the flamingo's around it. I'm leaning toward Mustang Island State Park myself, it's cheap, you can walk to the beach and you I can unhitch and drive the Tahoe on the beach and get far away from any crowds. Reminds me of when I used to put those old super long surfboards on top of my dad's Oldsmobile and cruise up and down the beach in Galveston.
