Don't forget doorgunner told Creekwolf that they jump and Condoluminum told her they climb trees. So rationality and the Animal planet have no bearing on a woman who spent the last day of the NorCal Rally looking up in case one was diving out of a tree at her.

Cottonwood should not be a problem. It is high desert and not alot of trees. If any tarantulas were in the area, the rattle snakes would get them.
ah, right. i'm not creeped out by much besides ticks (eee! eee! EEEE!) but there IS the "startle" factor. I certainly jumped when I encountered a huge but harmless bull snake stretched across some willow saplings at eye level once. And completely panicked while staying in an old stone house in southwestern France & a scorpion slithered out of the toe of my sneaker as I went to put it on one morning. (I yanked all the covers off the bed, wrapped up the shoe & threw the whole mess out a second-story window.) To this day, whether in a Westin hotel in Seattle or napping on my own couch, I shake out my shoes before putting them on!

Now that's comforting ...

Alright you guys, they do climb trees, I saw it, and we all know that sometimes they fall. lol While I'm not a big fan of snakes, was bitten once on the nose by a gopher snake, spiders still give me the heebee geebees. Just ask Going Campin, I must see the "dead" body when he kills them. I'll be the first to admit, part of my fears are irrational but nonetheless... I'm just disappointed that my spider senses were also on vacation. I can usually spot them a mile away.

well, there IS a species that builds webs & eats birds, but they are limited to south america. i was not aware, however, that spiders routinely fall out of trees.
