Great as usual. We had very mild weather. A couple of mornings were cool...low 50's and some days were warm...low 80's. No rain while we were there so I wore shorts the entire trip! The Osborne Family Light Spectacular is always beautiful no matter how many times I see it.

Alas, though, the economy has affected Disney. Some of the restaurants were noticeably less decorated than usual. We did buy lots of Christmas decorations and a few tee-shirts for the boys, though and I bought another Mickey Mouse watch,

It was about as far from Orlando to Topsail as it is from Atlanta to Orlando. The drive isn't bad though. It is interstate almost all the way, except the last 50 miles or so. The weather at Topsail was great, too. Shorts the entire weekend. It did rain Saturday night, but other than that is was mid-70's and partly cloudy on Friday and Saturday. I think it was cooler earlier in the week.

I'm hoping this weekend will be rain free and warm enough for shorts again. I don't like long paints!

Hi MM! It was nice meeting you and "Minnie" at Ft. Wilderness. By the time we checked on Jan. 3 we were the last Airstream there. On the 1st and 2nd most people were packing up their elaborate Christmas displays (and some were really, really elaborate, as you know) and heading out. By the time we left the place was maybe 75-80% occupied and virtually all the Christmas displays were gone.

We tried to book New Year's '10 but for any stay over 2 or 3 days they were already booked! A year in advance! Ridiculous.

Glad you had a nice trip to Topsail and back to GA - maybe we'll run into each other again at FW or a future rally somewhere.

Brad, it was nice to meet you and your wife after exchanging a couple of PM's about Ft. Wilderness. I'm sorry to hear that the holidays are already booked for next year because I haven't made mine yet. Last year they wouldn't book more than 12 months out so I was waiting 'till we got back. Well, you snooze you loose, I guess. I'll just have to call from time to time and see what I can get.

We frequently go to Ft W and often have to call over and over to get a reservation. They seem to have a strange reservation system. Often I can get in for longer stays over a short one of 2 or 3 days. If you want NYE, don't give up and keep calling or try online. I'll bet you can get in.

We've made reservations for Ft Wilderness at Christmas and New Years 4 or 5 times over the past 10 years - all within one month of going. We've always been successful getting the sites we want (preferred pet loop) so keep trying. I think people tend to cancel more as the time gets closer. Plus one of the reservationists told me that the system was reset at midnight so to try and call early in the morning for the best chance. I'm not sure if that's still the case or not.
