Alan....Have you ever tried "The Pocket"? Lots of quiet, compartatively cool, and most of all secluded. Yes, you need a genset; but the serenity is worth that little obstacle...........Dennis

We're running the Blue Ridge the last week of July/First of August, from Roanoke to Cherokee. I can't wait!
JP
we did that in our Airstream motorhome, went all the way to Hershey PA and then came back through Maryland Shore and VA Beach. What a great trip. Of course gas was 1.75 a gallon.

Alan.....NW Georgia/NE Alabama area is a well kept secret......The folks moving up from Florida are just now beginning to discover it. Still very rural and not being condemned with condos and high density housing replacing the trees on every hillside. For me, going over to the eastern side of the blue ridge is like going up into New Jersey. Just a joke but sadly true.
Anyway, "The Pocket" is located where Floyd, Walker, and Chatooga county meet. It is nestled down into a pocket between several mountain ridges. A freeflowing springs fed creek, yes springs, goes through the campground and is perfect for wading, and yes the Baptist folks do a lot of baptising there.
Often, I ride up there on my M/C to thank God for His blessings or just to share with him. Very cathederal like there next to the creek under those trees...........
To find it, go to Villanow and ask the folks where the road is. Or go to Sugar Valley, where I live. In downtown Sugar Valley, look right across the road from the "store" and there is a road intersection. Follow that road, up the mountain, around about 10 switchbacks, past lake Marvin which has pretty good fishing and a boat launch, take a right at the stop sign and you are there...............
Hope that is confusing enough so that it remains "unknown". But truly, it is worth the visit to wake up on a weekday and find yourself alone in the whole place......
See you then...........God Bless...........Dennis

Dennis- nice post. Enjoyed that. We have " discovered" the area around Lake Russell ( and now own an acre on the Lake!) and look forward to getting our property there electrified and 'waterfied'. These things should be in soon, and maybe by next Spring we will have a driveway and area cleared where the Airstream can overnight.
In the meantime we are headed back to Russell state Park and Beach July 7
