So you all know that I am not one for too much organization. But I am wondering if anyone would like to paticipate in a chili cook off for Saturday night? Maybe Chili and Wine sampling? It would spice up the shared dinner and make it a but more fun,,,if that is possible.
We could vote silently on the chili and enjoy the wines and whatever other beverages show up.
What do you all think?

We will try to make this rally. I have not yet signed up. Have to convince the wife that it won't be too cold. We now have two kids so it would be a long drive after Friday school but maybe.

Alan,
Sounds like fun for a chili cookoff and wine sampling. Count us in. I assume this is in lieu of the normal pot luck dinner. I should have plenty of gas to get home on Sunday.

Agreed. I'm in for the chili cookoff.
Any suggestions on a wine that pairs with chili and cornbread?

I don't drink wine but I heard about a fun wine tasting party last night. The bottles of wine couldn't cost more than $10 but there was one more expensive ($17) dollar bottle added. The wines were all in brown paper bags so you couldn't see the label and participants tasted and voted. An $8.99 wine won first prize. The $17 bottle came in third. Everyone wrote down the name of the $8.99 bottle to add to their grocery list
I like the idea of a chili contest too.

sounds like a great idea. I buy a scotch that won a test against 40-80 dollar a bottle brands. It was tested in a similar way. It is 17-20 bottle and quite good. Cluny.
So the chili thing is on. We can do a separate table at the shared dinner for that.

Today the temp is 94 degrees with the humidity factored in it feels like 103. Impatiently waiting for fall to get here. Looking forward to the cool fall temps in north Georgia.
