Another option...there is a great fresh fish market right near the docks. You can get fresh White Fish, Walleye, Lake Perch, etc. Fish can be purchased cooked or to take & cook later. Sorry, I can't remember the name, but it's easy to find...right near one of the ferry docks. We consider it a "must stop" when we're in Mackinaw City.

Gosh, less than 6 days away from the begining of the Rally, and we are already wondering "are we there yet"? Last minute shopping, cleaning the trailer (last nights rain wasn't enough), stocking the trailer, checking LP, tires, and fresh water.

It will be nice to escape the hot dry weather of KC.

We are looking forward to meeting everyone next week.

Worth it

Anyone else going?
Gotta remember...the buffet lunch INCLUDES:
  • TAX
  • GRATUITIES
  • ADMISSION ONTO THE FRONT PORCH ROCKERS (normally $10)
I've had the lunch and the food/service is excellent. What comes with the lunch is also the ability to go through all the floors of the hotel. It is long, like a cruise ship, with shops and then there is the hidden cupola bar at the top that (I think) is worth it for a breathtaking view of the straits.

I've never been on the carriage ride and so I'm going to go for it. What can be bad about clip-clopping around the island in a carriage pulled by a team of horses besides smelling the occasional road apple?

I figure if I dedicate that Friday to Mackinac Island itself, then I can do the grand buffet, the carriage ride, a bike ride or horseback ride, and still have time to hit the Pink Pony at 6 p.m. for a beverage (medicinal, for sure) and some evening bar hopping, shopping on the strip, or more biking.

Reminder everybody!! Bring a winter yooper hat (stormy kromer, anything furry, a ski hat with braids, whatever you've got laying around) for a group picture we can send in to Airstream Life with our thank you note for the goodies they have donated to our raffle!

I've seen this place, too!

Great suggestion! I've seen this place, can't remember the name, but everything is easy to find in this 1,000 horse town. I'm going to load up on lake perch at the end of the day. This way my purchase won't blossom in my backpack, announcing my arrival at every shop entrance. Wink.

I'm also hope-hope-hoping we can score some fresh salmon on our fishing expeditions and bring some to the group campfire one night.

THERE IS STILL ROOM FOR ANY LAST MINUTE ARRIVALS. MOST OF US HAVE NEVER MET AND ARE COMING FROM FAR AND WIDE...
WE'VE GOT KANSAS, OKLAHOMA, GEORGIA, INDIANA, ILLINOIS, OHIO, AND JUST PLAIN ALL OVER THE MIDWEST FOLKS COMING TOGETHER. IF YOU CAN SWING IT, CALL SANDY AT MACKINAW MILL CREEK CAMPGROUND (231-436-5584) AND GET A RESERVATION. JUMP ON BOARD!

I've got possibly bad news in that unreliable sources said that Letho's is closed. They don't answer the phone and it has been disconnected... Been going there over 50 years, I hope it isn't true. Those that have ask us to pick them up pasties from them, we are still going to make the trip there and hope for the best. I'll second the choice for the fresh fish market on the dock, always a good choice. BTW any one ever had 'blind robins'?

We're on the road... will be there next week (Tuesday I think???)

For now, we're in Elizabethtown, KY. This is our third trip here over the years. The first was quite some time ago (pre-Airstream for us). The second was about three years ago to see an Antsy McClain concert. This trip also includes Antsy as well as hooking up with other Air Forums members here in E-town.

We're looking forward to seeing everyone in MI next week. The weather forecast looks good - the low 80's will be a welcome relief from the high 90's we've been experiencing for the last week or so.

Saw someone out 'o' state pulling a 26 ft'er leaving Cabela's in Dundee Mi. about 5pm today heading north. Made me wonder if it was one of our 'Udie da bridge' brethren... Happy trails to you all.

Made it to Kelly & John's farm where I'm parked in the corner of a hay field waiting for the deer to come out.

Now that's my idea of a perfect campsite! I sure wish we could make this rally... It looks to be a great one. Please post lots of pics!

Just found a facebook group to "like" called Yooper Pasty. Watching Queen Elizabeth parachute down from James Bond's chopper into the middle of the opening ceremonies of the Olympics in London made my night. (TinLoaf) Steve and I are going to do a trial run on the projector to figure out all the hookups so we can shine the games on the side of his Airstream when we are all together NEXT WEEK!!!!!
