DOGWOODS & BLUEGRASS – Kentucky Rally!
A number of us have begun planning a rally to held in the great state of Kentucky.
When: April 16-19 2009
Where: Still under discussion. So far we are considering Natural Bridge, Nolin lake, and Dale Hollow Lake.
Title: DOGWOODS & BLUEGRASS
Graphic: Suggested graphic is -
Nothing will be sent to Andy for posting until the group checks in. If someone has a better idea - go fo it!
We are looking for a few helpers and lots of campers -
Seriously, Kentucky in Springtime is a walking definition of God's Country.
We do have a few months to plan this event but - we only have a few months to plan this event - so we need to begin.
63Silver - any luck with ReserveAmerica?
Alumatube - I know you are packing but - any thoughts on activities?
94tri - What do you think?
Lets plan a rally!

Awesome, DB! We will plan for it. We signed on a house yesterday and close on it Oct. 31 (I'm wearing a costume to closing! ), so we should both be there and settled in by then.
A few things we have found very successful at other rallies we have been to ('specially Branson--great job, Steve!) is a potluck dinner, a cook-off of some sort, and a trailer tour. I like to try to get technical sessions in there somewhere too--if anyone in the group is experienced in something, have them show everyone else (we had a good one on polishing a trailer). The potluck works for Friday night, since people may still be getting there, and the cook-off on Saturday night when everyone is there and has had time to get their food ready. The trailer tour was usually from noon to three on Saturday--everyone loves to see everyone else's trailers/mohos. We have done stuff like movie night (someone brings a projector and sound system), a music night (everyone brings guitars and stuff and sings) and were talking about a disco night (but it didn't happen, darn it!). There is usually enough time for people to explore the area, go shopping, etc.
How's that for thoughts!?! I will hopefully be able to help with some planning/facilitating in the spring, but not anytime soon, sorry!

Oooo-Ahhh
Anne and I will discuss attending. Really depends on the Springstream dates and our vacation availability.
And gas prices.
Would there be any consideration given to Land between the Lakes as a potential site for this rally?
You are so right. Kentucky is God's Country in both seasons of the year: basketball season and waiting for basketball season.

Very interesting - I'm posting so it will keep popping up for me to see this thread. I'll be getting home from sea by then and in need of a rally.

Snow in Kentucky in mid April - very unlikely- Could be 80 degrees or could be 60 and rainy. One thing about it. If you wait a couple of days the weather will change around here. Never the same for very long.
Unless something totally unforseen shows up, I am in for this rally.

Follow-up
63Silver -
Here’s an update of the marker. I tried a few ways of jockeying in an Airstream and they all simply looked confusing. This one has a small silhouette on the hill.
Simple is often best!
Crispyboy -
campground delivery??? – At least our Saturday entertainment would be taken care of! ;-)
Airedale –
What little snow we have is normally is gone by then.
Alumatube –
Congratulations on the house. Those are some great ideas for activities – perhaps when we are closer to the event and you are in your new digs we can expand on them.
Ike T –
You mean Kentucky actually has a Basketball team? What a cute idea! ;-)
(I know, I know – just kidding)
All –
I'll put together a list of region members and do a mailing when we firm up where the event will happen.
What are we missing?
We do appreciate everyones input.

Can't agree more about Kentucky being one of the most beautiful places on earth during springtime. As a native Kentuckian who has traveled the world for the last 30 years I still enjoy traveling the commonwealth most of all.
I realize your rally is only three days and would like to take this opportunity to promote the WBCCI "Springtime In Kentucky Caravan" for those who would like to see more of the state.
The "Springtime in Kentucky" Caravan has been in existence for over 20 years and continues to get great review from those who have attended. The 2009 Caravan will begin April 26 and continue until May 17 with visits to My Old Kentucky Home, several horse farms, tours and sampling at some of the states bourbon distillaries, a visit to the Kentucky Derby and many more activities. For additional information you may contact Lee Miller Ph: 502-425-1364

Could possibly make the rally if it is held at Dale Hollow Lake. Also would depend on the Springstream Rally date. Sounds like fun!

Here is the historical weather data for Dale Hollow Lake:
April 70.0° F 41.0° F 4.11 in 91.0° (04/28/1986) 22.0° F (04/19/1983)
I would think it wouldn't get any better than that.
It is a bit far, but if people were interested in getting a Seal tech leak test done, I could probably take a day from work to make the rally.

Hello all,
Love the idea, location, and time of year. Will have to talk to the Mrs. about this one. It would be our first rally. Keep us posted on your progress and any other ideas you might have, DB.

Digger,
That's great, couldn't be better!!! Got a message this afternoon from Natural Bridge, they will be happy to work with us. I think it is time to make an absolute decision about location, Natural Bridge or Dale Hollow so people can start making reservations. Let's hear some opinions, it's nice to have such good options.

Where – For me, to be honest, I can go anywhere. Location is not a deal breaker.
That said I have two reasons for pushing Natural Bridge.
First is personal - stories my mother told me about it during my childhood and have never taken time to go there.
Second I am a member of the International group and have done rallies with them—(I know a few will be reading this and please know I have the deepest respect for the Louisville based group), they do appear to focus (albeit not exclusively) on events very close to Louisville (Dale Hollow/Bradenburg/General Butler/all meeetings). It would be nice to explore the remainder of the state.
I know there seems to be a lot of folks interested in Dale Hollow. That is do-able and in the end may be the best decision since a lot of respondents are closer to it. We may, however, lose people from Ohio – that appears to be a very active group and have shown some interest.
So – FWIW – my vote is:
1. Natural Bridge
2. Dale Hollow
3. Anywhere in Kentucky as long as I am surrounded by friends!
So everybody- What’s your vote?

We have never been to Natural Bridge even though I have lived in KY all my life. I say NB, try something new!! My brother says in his opinion it is one of the most beautiful places in the state. So, 2 for NB. If all goes well maybe DH next year.

Have not been on the forum in a few days . Great to see what has transpired with this rally. NB would be fine with me as I have yet to camp there. I could help with some intertainment (Digital projector for watching movies outside).

Anne just checked and it's been 7 years since we visited Natural Bridge. I don't think we've ever visited Dale Hollow Lake.
Doesn't matter to us but Dale Hollow is at least 200 miles closer to us round-trip.
