Idea

Why can't there be more weekends in July?

I have to GONG the 25th. Silvertwinkie (can't say that without a giggle) has a point about the 11th being too soon after the 4th......besides that, do you think we could find someplace that has reservations together on such short notice? Of course if the 25th works for the rest of you (laying on some guilt) we wouldn't want to spoil (sporting sad eyes and pouty lips) the rest of your fun (oh, woas me). Yaknow....we could always shoot for the first weekend in August! (subtle, eh?)

Really, all. We'll try to be there no matter what the date, and if we can't, we'll be home doing rain dances and cursing......no, no, that's not what I meant to say. We'll get through it just knowing the rest of you are having fun and wishing we were there (biting tongue).

Hey Roger, I am kinda surprised you'd be interested in watching the ladies pillow fight.......won't you men be too busy drinking beer, belching, blaming bad smells on the dogs and scratching yourselves? (giggle......all stereotyping in good fun - even if it may ring true)

hoping for a happy ending,
Tracy

exscuse the bad typing, but trying to type and hold a baby isn't easy. anyway, the 11th would be better for my family. my husband leaves to go over the road the weekend after that. i don't know when he'll be back again after that. so let me know.

Exclamation Decisions, decisions!!!

Ok, here is the scoop. It looks like the 11th is our day. That's the good news....

The not so good news is that the park only has about 20 spots that can be reserved and on the 4th attempt calling the park, I got some message that said that all the spots that can be reserverd have been for the 2003 camping year.

This poses a possible problem since some may come from a greater distance than just local.

So I quickly started looking at Wisconsin and Indiana. Wisconsin had nothing to speak of, however, I found that Indiana Dunes has a few spots open. Only one spot will accomidate a 34 foot trailer and the other 9 spots will take 28ft or smaller.

So the question is, do we risk it and stick with Illinois Beach State Park? Heck, I'd be willing to go on Friday morning and buy 7 or 8 sites (if they are avail). Or we can relocated the rally to the Indiana Dunes for the 11th which is about 75 miles south of where we were going to go and if we act we can all get a reservation over the phone fairly close to each other with electric.

What do you all think?

Eric... I guess the question is: How many of us are longer than 28' (besides me...)???

Use your best judgement and let me know where to show up. It's all about the same from here, something around 225 miles...

Count us in on the 11th as long as we've got SOMEWHERE to park!!!

Roger

I think you are it. The space number that is suppose to fit the 34' is space 29 at Indiana Dunes.

If everyone is agreeable that this is a better option then the number for reservations is 1-866-622-6746. If I don't hear any objections, I will call tomorrow and make my reservation and suggest that you all call as soon as possible to grab the remaining sites. They take Visa/Mastercard for the reservations. I called the campground and like most of the others, it seems that after the 4th, the parks are pretty full. One other note is that the Indiana Parks that are Class A (electric and showers) cost $22 a night + I believe I saw a $9 service fee for reservation. Here is the link to the campground:

http://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/parks/indianadunes.html

BTW, if the group feels that Indiana Dunes is alright, then the spot numbers that are open as of right this minute are:

29- for the 34' --it's the only one avail

11
19
23
24
25
40
45
47
49

If you call, these are the spots left for the weekend of the 11th. If for some reason you all have a 34' or something larger than a 28', I am sure we can figure out a place to park your tow vehicle. It has been over 20 years since I have been here and quite honestly, I don't remember much about "The Dunes".

Let me know on or offline what you think.

Eric

You can count me out. Although it's the right weekend I can't go.My father, who I have a restraining order against, will be there that weekend. I'm not going to endanger my child and myself again by going there. But the rest of you have fun.

I'm real sorry to hear that.

I remember Illinois Beach State Park being real nice when we camped as kids there. The main problem is that all the resevered sites are reserved and to have some of the people who want to attend over 200 miles away with no promise of a site is a bit unrealistic to me.

I have to apologize to all for the changing of gears, but it just looks like the right thing to do and it still is within reason when it comes to distance and meets the swimming need that was mentioned.

Hope most of you are still up for it! So far it looks like Roger and I are a done deal.

Angry

We couldn't go anyway because we have 34 ft. and the 34 ft. site is already taken. Besides that is an outrageous price for a campground. We'll just go to Rock Cut that weekend to celebrate my husband going over the road. After that I highly doubt if we'll be able to make any rallies, but we'll see. :

Well if things change domestically, I had a thought. The sites are rated in size for tow vehicle and trailer together so a 34' camper and a 20' truck might have only fit in space 29...however, if the tow vehicle can be parked in the overflow lot, I seemed to find 6 sites that could accept a 34' space. Of course, you would want to check with the folks on the phone first before making a commitment.

The $23/night is kind of steep, but I figure that a good hotel is much more money and someone has slept in the bed before......
