There's no question we'll have fun. We even have live music scheduled. I just feel guilty that the campground is holding holiday weekend sites for us and nobody is reserving them.

Just a reminder... Whittington Woods is only holding sites for us until May 15th. After that they're opening our block of sites up to their 4th of July weekend waiting list. If you're even thinking about joining us, please call and make your reservation now.

As of this writing we only have seven trailers.

Cannot Attend

Hello,

Danielle and I changed our RSVP to no. Unfortunately we cannot attend this rally but it sure sounds like a good way to enjoy a weekend with friends.

Please considering hosting a "Can't Afford the Rally" airforums rally next year. We think it's a great idea!

Lucius

It's too bad you can't make the rally, but Rend Lake is a great area to hold rallies and there will definitely be more. I hosted the May Southern Illinois Unit rally at the Army Corps of Engineers group camp across the lake and it was very well received. If I can get about ten firm commitments, I'd love to host an Airforums rally there later this year.

There has also been interest in another "Back to the Basics" rally at Hidden Springs State Forest for next April or early May.

Friday

I just got back from a week-long fishing trip and dang, it looks like we have a rally coming up.

With a small group it will be easy to organize potlucks and stuff. Let's plan to do a potluck Friday night. I'll smoke a pork butt again for the main dish. Let's schedule it on the late side so folks driving down after work can be included. Does 6:00 sound good?

We're fortunate to have our rally coincide with the 2011 Best Dam BBQ Cookoff at the Rend Lake Dam Visitor Center in which Laird will be one of the judges. Skinny Jim and the Number 9 Blacktops will be paying music described as "hot rod rockabilly" on Friday night at 8:00. Ticket cost is $10.

Saturday

On Saturday we can go over to the International Rally. It's going to be really hot on Saturday, so the earlier the better. The price for a day-pass is $55 for WBCCI members and $15 for visitors, so this is certainly optional.
  • 9:00 to 11:00: Flea Market & Craft Show @ Southern Illinois Center (SIC).
  • 9:00 to 4:00: Bill Thomas Airstream displays.
  • 2:00 to 3:00: Travel Photography seminar @ SIC 4.
  • 2:00 to 4:00: Coach power seminar @ Vintage Parking Area.
  • 2:30 to 4:30: WBCCI History @ SIC.
  • 2:30 to 4:30: Full-timing seminar @ Exhibition Hall E.7:30: DuQuoin Night featuring Blend.

I'm not very interested in the schedule as much as just walking around and seeing all the trailers, especially the vintage section.

After visiting the International maybe we can find a local restaurant for lunch or dinner.

The Cobb County Bluegrass Band will be playing in the pavilion Saturday night.

Sunday

On Sunday lets do a 4th of July Potluck around 5:00 pm. We have a lot of Dutch Oven cooking fans, so maybe we can celebrate the heritage of our country by cooking old-style? Just an idea.

The Rend Lake Chamber of Commerce will be shooting fireworks from the dam at 9:30. We've been impressed by the quality of their display in past years.

The art deco style of the fairgrounds was as neat as seeing all the trailers.
