Canopener 2015

9th Annual Canopener Rally

January 9-11, 2015

Topsail Hill Preserve State Park, Gregory E. Moore RV Resort

7525 W. Scenic Highway 30A

Santa Rosa Beach, Florida 32459

(850)267-8330

You are invited to attend a fun-filled weekend in northwest Florida at beautiful Topsail Hill Preserve State Park in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. The park's beaches have sugar white sand, the water is a wonderful emerald green and temperatures average a high of 61 degrees in early January.

This rally just keeps growing in popularity – there were approximately 90 Airstream trailers and motor homes at the 2014 Canopener Rally.

Fun and sharing a good time with like-minded fellow Airstreamers is the main agenda. The park offers hiking, beautiful beaches and trails suitable for jogging or bicycling. Many participants bring their kayaks. There are numerous outstanding restaurants in the Santa Rosa area.

Scheduled activities include a potluck dinner and breakfast, breakfast or hike with the ranger, cornhole board tournament, Airstream trailer open house, new Airstream trailers on display courtesy of Foley RV and a number of other fun informal social activities.

Although the rally is officially Friday through Sunday, January 9-11, 2015, some folks do arrive early to take advantage of the park and surrounding area. There have been informal events preceding the official start of the rally and these will be identified on this thread as organized.

There will be a link posted for the RSVP signup page. We request each attendee RSVP as this is the source of information used for badge and map creation as well as planning purposes.

Reservations for campsites must be made through Reserve America. Their policy prohibits reservation more than 11 months in advance of your arrival date (see their site for exact details). Loop 103 has traditionally been where most Airstreams locate and the loop will fill quickly. If you miss loop 103 don’t worry, there will be Airstreams located throughout the park.

There are no rally fees.

Canopener 2015 RSVP

Folks:

No need to RSVP quite yet, as you cannot report your site number until Reserve America accepts reservations sometime in February.

I probably created the page a bit early, so please wait to RSVP until you have your site reserved.

Thanks for your patience as I learn the ropes.

Tom

We won't be at Canopener next year, but anyone who is looking for a camping location before or after (like we did this year) may want to check out Oscar Scherer State Park, south of Sarasota on the west coast (Osprey, FL). Really nice, great sites (electric and water).

Karen has been on hikes and biking and I have been kayaking. There is a bald eagle nest with two young eagles - really cool. Karen wanted to shoot them for dinner, but I explained how politically incorrect that might be perceived.

Highly recommend this campground, but make plans early - not a ton of sites and they fill up early (what a shock).

Silverbee: Robin and I are probably two of the few Canopenians who know where Fuquay-Varina is located! We used to live in Cary. Ever been to "Toot and Tell It"? Look forward to meeting you and having you as guests. Tom

wish we could come!

We attended the 2013 Canopener because it fell during Christmas break. We had a great time. I am sad that the date has been moved, and we could not attend this year. It looks like next year won't happen either. Wish the date could fall during Christmas break again....we would be there!

It's on our list!

We were "just looking" this year and spent early January in NC with snow and below 0 temperatures but we had a fire in the fireplace and it was all good. I followed the forum traffic and wished that we had an Airstream and could go.

Next year, no excuses. We found a great 2001 Safari twin and brought it home (all 8 miles) last Saturday. We have been emptying, cleaning, organizing, servicing appliances and making small repairs for a week now, and trying to plan a one or two-nighter near home for a shakedown cruise. It is hard to find a campsite in Florida this time of year!

Tom and Robin:

Yes-we know Toot and Tell It. When we say where we are from, most say "what was that?" Deb went to Garner High and grew up between Fuquay and Garner. Tom is a transplant from South Carolina but has been here 35 years. We look forward to meeting you as well as everyone else. We have talked about Canopener for quite a while. Can't wait.

Tom & Deborah,

Hello from another Tarheel who knows where Fuquay Varina is located. I grew up near Hubert and now live in Pfafftown.

There's another fun rally coming up closer to home the end of March at Lake Wateree, South Carolina called Alumalina. The campground is fully booked now but there is always the possibility of a cancellation. Many of the Canopener attendees will be at Alumalina. Check out the thread on the Forums. The weekend after Alumalina the Carolina's unit of the WBCCI is having a unit rally in New Bern. If you are interested in attending, PM me.

Another good place to visit in the late spring and through the summer is the Virginia Highland Haven Airstream Park between Floyd and Roanoke, Virginia. It is an Airstream only campground, with 46 full hookup sites, located on 75 acres on top of a ridge line in the Blue Ridge. The views and sunsets are beautiful. It is a great place to spend a weekend or a week. If you like bluegrass music, local musicians play live every Friday night in nearby Floyd.

We hope you enjoy your Airstream as much as we've enjoyed ours for 2 1/2 years!

Chuck:
Thanks for the good information. Actually, we attended the first two Alumalinas in Charlotte. John has done a great job with that rally. However, we are both retiring at the end of March and won't make this one. We look forward to meeting you - Just watched your great video. And yes, would like to go to Highland Haven-bluegrass is in our blood. See you then if not before.
