Another reminder

Pots will find their way home but utensils are not that good at navigating. If you want your serving utensil back it is a good idea to put your name in it. The clean up crew is conscientious put they are not puzzle solvers.

Help please!

Your help is urgently needed. If you are coming to Canopener 2015, please read this post and take action!!!!

We are deep in the process of making name tags and we would like to get them right. The information you provided on the official Canopener Rally RSVP page is our guide. We will have printed name tags (first name only) for each person you listed in your rally RSVP page. We are not using any information you provided Reserve America or the campground when you made your campsite reservation because we have no access to that information. Please, go to the link below RSVP and check your rally reservation. If you scroll down the RSVP page your rally reservation details will appear next to your AirForums name.

If you have changes to your rally reservation, please reflect the change(s) on the RSVP page and send me a PM telling me about the update. Scroll to the bottom of the RSVP page and you will see your reservation and the data input box. Make any additions or changes in the box. We really need your help to get it right.

If you have not yet registered officially with the Canopener rally, please do so on the RSVP page today. A reservation with the campground, or a note on the Canopener thread, does not automatically register you with the rally. If you have not registered for the rally, click on the RSVP link below, scroll to the bottom of the page, click the "yes" button, and fill in the following information - site number, first names of people attending, and dates you plan to attend.

Canopener 2015 Rally Reservations Link (RSVP)

The campground maps have been updated with the latest information on the RSVP page. We regret we do not have space on the map to list all of the children's names. We have tried to include all of the adult names on the map. Please look at at the map and send me a PM if something is in error. Map links appear below:

Canopener 2015 Campground Map Outside Loop 103

Canopener 2015 Campground Map Loop 103

Sorry about the administrative details but with over 100 Airstream units attending it is difficult for the organizers to keep track of everyone. We want all participants to feel welcome and enjoy the rally. Name tags help create the feeling of community we all desire.

I am horrible with putting names to faces so really appreciate the name tags and all the hard work that goes into producing them.

RSVP page

Another gentle reminder:
Please register on the RSVP page.
See Florida 55's post #593 above for the link.
If you do not, you will not receive a name tag and will not be registered for the door prizes as that is the source we use for those items.
Thanks! Tom

Need to know information

Well, time is drawing near for us all to gather for Canopener 2015. Just about three weeks away and time will fly by quickly. I will be posting several administrative items for your information as we approach the date.

If you have been following the thread, this year we will set an attendance record with over 100 Airstreams registered. Best estimates based on the RSVP list indicate we could have as many as 240 people attending. Those numbers attest to the popularity of the event, but will present us some challenges which I am sure we can overcome easily if we all work together and are patient.

1. Seating capacity of the Clubhouse: Perhaps our greatest challenge will be seating for the Thursday night and Sunday morning potlucks which are held at the clubhouse. I anticipate we will exceed the seating capacity of the clubhouse, so I am asking those that plan to attend these events bring along your chairs in the event some may have to eat outside. The park is nearing completion of significant improvements to the amphitheater, so it may offer us options which I will explore when I arrive.

2. Tables: A second challenge will be having enough serving tables for the Saturday potluck event which is held out on Wild Oak Lane. If you have a folding table, please bring it along. Second reminder: bring your own seating and utensils (plates, cups, etc) for each event.

3. Saturday potluck: Note we will be starting the Saturday afternoon/evening potluck at 4PM so we can take advantage of daylight for setting up.

4. Canopies: Weather is always unpredictable on the Gulf Coast and we have had rain at several of the last Saturday afternoon potlucks. If you have a pop-up canopy please bring it. We have used them to cover the food line and eat under.

5. Weather: Long as we are mentioning weather, I want everyone to understand we will be at the mercy of the weather for several of our events….especially the Saturday afternoon/evening potluck. Should we have pouring down rain, there is no alternative venue in the park which would accommodate over 200 people, so we would have to see what we could come up with last minute or cancel that event. Hopefully that will not happen, but everyone needs to be conscious of that possibility.

We are finalizing the schedule and will post later in the week. Stay tuned and prepare for a great time at Topsail Hill Preserve.

I have a folding table. Not very large, but it will do. I was already planning to bring it.

4. Canopies: If you have a pop-up canopy please bring it.
I have a 10×10 Coleman canopy, and even have removable sidewalls to enclose up to three sides of it. I'll bring canopy and sidewalls.

5. Weather:
Is it a sign of eagerness that I'm already routinely checking the Weather Channel's online 10-day forecast for Destin? Even though at this point the forecast doesn't extend past Christmas eve?

Protagonist...

The probabilistic nature of weather forecasts makes for a difficult time...even a few days out. I think we can say that the forecast for well beyond 10 days is shall we say quite uncertain.

But now that you reminded me, I am off to check it myself.

I can bring a 10x10 pop up tent with sides as well as a fairly large folding table.

We still have no idea what food we will bring....but we will decide soon.

10 x 10 canopy and two tables are in our routine gear, so we will have them for Saturday. Yes, I look at The Weather Channel all the time, to try to get an idea of what will be going on. If weather looks chancy as the date approaches, I think getting somr restaurant take out styrofoam containers withe fold over lid would allow easy to take back to a dry Airstream meal. Hardy types may huddle under nearby awnings, too. But for now, I'm planning on drier weather just because I want drier weather....

Bringing - and I appreciate someone adding to the overall lists.
Thursday - Chili Cook Off - pickled jalapenos (home grown and put up); Saturday - something desserty; Sunday brunch - Juice of some sort (hats off to Sky - I'll also be bringing a hangover!). We've changed our AirForums name to Silver Fern, aka mcdowellc -- Carl and Nancy McDowell
