Potlucks is the term I grew up with Michigan. The Hoosiers whom I dwell amongst currently call them Pitch Ins.

Still trying to wrap my head around the notion of a potluck breakfast. Or given the scheduled time, I guess it's really a potluck brunch. Might be a good time for me to try out my new breadmaking machine and the raisin pumpernickel recipe I picked up…

All we have left at home is an angst ridden teen... we could set her loose on the campground, but it would just be depressing.

I'm firmly convinced that the main reason for teenaged angst is that teenagers somehow don't believe that their parents were ever teenagers and so couldn't possibly understand what they're going through. The main thing parents should teach teenagers is, "I used to be a teenager when I was your age. I got over it, and so will you."

I think last year we had about 20 different breads, etc. Seems many were in a baking mood.

Hey Tater,
I don't know if this is an issue or not, but apparently both Davcarv and LarryC think they have reserved site number 56...

They both might want to go check their reservations and make sure they've reserved the dates they think they have.

The teenage brain is still bubbling with development more or less I am told by my friend who is a phD neuroscientist...apparently for women they get smarter quicker and their pre-frontal cortex (or some such) is fully developed by like age 23 or 24...men are more like 25.

I have a number of teenage family now...some neices and nephews and such in my family that I get to converse with.

It is interesting. Often they lack perspective as protaganist eluded to. More often they are much more interested in assimilation with their peers, however they often question authority and are highly confident of their assertions despite at times being unable to support them with much of an explanation or with any sort of evidence.

I had a discussion with my 12 year old neice a couple months ago...she kept using the term "literally" over and over and over in a way inconsistent with the defintion of the term (as I understood it at that time). I asked her why she kept saying "literally"...then asked her to define the term...she could not...then we discussed the definition. Then she argued that its ok to use the term in this way because thats what everyone does...then I invited her to think more critically about the logic of such a statement....etc....eventually I think she was just annoyed, lol

Interestingly, 1 week later, I was writing a facebook post about the use of the term "literally" and in doing so I went to pull the dictionary definition....it seems that in summer 2014, merriam and oxford added an informal new defintion for the term making it as a general "intensifier" and as such can make it's use informally correct such as:

"I am so angry my head is literally going to explode!"....let that simmer for a while, lol.

Anyway...point is...I think I will annoy the hell out of the minds of my future teens...

(PS, I am by far not a highly qualified grammar nazi, but do try and listen to those annoying people to learn )

So, literally, we can't take the definition of "literally" literally...

-Red, who literally just can't even...

Makes sense. That's about how long it takes males to learn to think with neurons rather than hormones…

I know a few males in their fifties who still think with their hormones...

My husband and I will have a 15 year old along with us. The angst hasn't reared it's ugly head YET, but we all know it's coming. She is quite the entrepreneur though and mentioned that she'd love to skim a few $ off of you with smaller children who would want a little elbow room during the rally. Typically, we just call that babysitting.
