As long as "canopener" is not a required utensil to eat the potluck! Though of course I will be bringing one just in case…

No can opener necessary with peach cobbler... Well, not to eat it anyways.

We are looking forward to our first rally at the CanOpener.
Hoping the weather holds out and is nice.
I know it can be cold and rainy.
Suggestions on what to bring would be welcomed that was helpful from pass rallies.

Bring some warm clothes, just in case, last year it was cold when we arrived a few days early. In the 20's we had to go to Walmart and get some more sweatshirts. I also learned a valuable lesson. If it's going to be that cold disconnect your water line at night and bring it in so it doesn't freeze solid like mine did.

Firedog, you brought up a good point. Although we are originally from that area, we haven't camped in cold weather yet so I was wondering how to handle freezing temps and water. Have you, or anyone else, had success with a heated water hose or the water hose heater line you wrap around the hose? Or, are they overkill and the best solution is to bring the hose in as you mentioned?

We have not camped in below freezing temps in our EB. Was wondering about a heated water hose also.

Since it is full hook ups at top sail, you can always leave a tap on a bit and keep the water flowing. That should keep it from freezing overnight. That's what we do here in Brooksville the few nights a year it gets cold enough to do damage.
If I remember correctly, others have used a hose heater with success.

I've used a Pirit heated hose successfully while camping at George P Cossar State Park in northern Mississippi during New Year's weekend last year. Thanks for the reminder to bring it to Canopener!

I'm told by my dietician colleagues that the occasional pig out won't kill ya.
Now - if I could get my patients to be on the same page with me what is defined by "occasional"
Now if you pig out the whole time for a week - it's bound to show up on that pesky A1c thing

And since Canopener follows Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's, all of which are traditional pig-out days, I've already given up on getting a good A1c on my next test.
But as my endocrinologist told me, better too sweet than too sour. High blood glucose can hurt you in the long run. Low blood glucose can hurt you right away.

Have you checked with the campground for open sites? There are always a few cancellations prior to the rally.

For those worried about frozen water hoses - In Florida, the temperature dip below freezing during daytime is fairly rare and therefore not cause for extensive preparation; just be sure to track the weather reports to see if there will be an artic blast headed in during the event. Last year's artic blast the week before really packed a wallop and caught many fellow campers by surprise. We were at St. George's Island for that cold front and, though some folks there had busted hoses, the big problem for most was the total loss of power on the island as all the homes turned on their heat pumps and overloaded the grid.
We simply disconnected the exterior hose from the trailer overnight and let the water drain out of the hose. It only took a few moments to reconnect each morning as the temperature rose above 32. Water in the lines inside the trailer will not freeze if you are using your heater. You can keep water in the tank if its really needed after dark or leave a jug in the bathroom for rinsing after brushing your teeth :-)
Of course, the comment about letting the taps drip all night also works.

Its been what seems like forever being on this forum. How is everyone doing?!
I am so happy that the Canopener has lasted this long. Hope you all have an awesome time this coming new year. As for me. I sold my Airstream and tow vehicle one year ago and now I am getting the camping bug again. Even my little girl keeps bringing it all the time so maybe I will be back and see all of you old and new friends once again. Have fun! Party hard and safe Travels.

Steve, you started a great thing. I remember that first Canopener. Trying to make another myself with our kids. A big THANK YOU to the founder.

Steve, great to hear from you. Come over and visit this little gathering you started. This will be #9 with more than 90 units registered. Seems your idea caught on!

I just checked the Topsail reservation site. There are currently 7 spots open for the Thursday thru Sunday. If you are thinking about attending better get of the fence and make your reservations while you still can.

Hi Steve
Let me just add my thanks for a great idea. I has given me reason to get out of New Jersey for the last 8 years. Please try and make it for dinner Saturday night it has become a scene.
