Wow, only a half-year more to wait. THIS event is the one we look forward to all year. Russ, I'd like to volunteer to help more than I did last year, just don't put me "in charge" of anything. Let me know, PM or otherwise, will you?

Canopener Information

Everybody,

Just like Greg said in the last post, we only have 6 more months to go until the next Canopener. It's hard to believe it's been 6 months since the last rally but like they say, time flies when you're having fun.

Chuck (Florida 55) has graciously offered to maintain the campground map for the rally and he's about to post the first one. We wanted to remind everyone that the source for this map is the RSVP signup page. Some of you haven't RSVP'd yet. For your convenience, here's the link so you don't have to look for it - RSVP. The link is also available on post #2 of this thread.

We encourage each of you to RSVP, as that is the source used for badge creation, being listed on the map, and for planning purposes (for example, the clubhouse does have a maximum capacity).

Thanks, Russ

Canopener 2014 Map

Back by popular demand I am please to present the first Canopener 2014 map showing all official RSVP's as of 7:30 am EDT today (July 9). In the past the development and updating of this map has been in the very capable hands of the Chief and Russ Drake. This year Russ delegated to me the "Keeper of the Map" role so the last few days I've been attempting to shamelessly adapt Chief's excellent design of last year's map for use this year. A link to the map appears below.

I count 36 respondents (official RSVP's) so far with sites in loop 103 but I'm speculating there are quite a few more who have not yet RSVP'd because a quick check of Reserve America shows there are 56 sites already reserved in the loop. As of this morning (July 9) there are only six of the highly coveted Loop 103 sites open for reservations on Reserve America. If you haven't signed up yet, hop on the Reserve America link. Once those Loop 103 sites are gone you'll be forced to camp in another part of the campground and have to schlep a few hundred feet to the center of the action.

If you haven't submitted your RSVP it is time to stop hiding and go to the Canopener 2014 RSVP site so we can put you on the list and everyone can see you are coming. As Russ posted yesterday, until you officially RSVP on the RSVP site, we won't put you on the map or produce a welcome packet for you with those highly collectable Canopener name badges. Many of you who have attended several Canopener events know these name badges from prior years sometimes trade on ebay for as much as fifty cents when paired with a Ginsu knife or bamboo steamer. If you don't RSVP you won't get your 2014 badge.

Please review the map carefully and if I didn't get close to the spelling of your name, omitted your better half, paired you with someone you claim you don't know, or committed some other faux pas please let me know. And now (drumroll) , here is the link to the one and only Canopener 2014 map:

Canopener 2014 Map: Update - 184 days to go!

Guess what today is? It's Powerball Wednesday! Yes, tonight there's an $80 million Powerball drawing. Even more important it is exactly 6 months (184 days) to the start of Canopener 2014! January 10, 2014 will be here before you know it.

Even if your Powerball number doesn't come up tonight you can still win big by signing up for one of the very few highly desirable spaces remaining in Loop 103 for the 2014 Canopener. In addition, if you've already signed up and forgotten to RSVP on the official RSVP page, you can RSVP tonight and get your Airstream featured on the next Canopener 2014 map update. Plus, you'll be on the official list to receive on of the highly coveted, limited edition, Canopener 2014 name badges. It really doesn't get any better than that. After all what's $80 million when the alternative is spending a great January weekend with your best Airstream friends .

To get you excited while waiting for the Powerball drawing tonight I'm including some pictures from the 2013 Canopener. Plus links to the map and RSVP page. Here we go:

Remember, you have to reserve a space to play at Canopener 2014!!!

Topsail Hill Preserve Reservations Site

To reserve a spot go to the Reserve America website and locate Topsail Hill Preserve State Park. There is a campground map on the website that will show which sites are available on the dates you wish to reserve. Note that the 103 Loop is where most of the activity occurs, although sites in other loops are only a short walk away.

Here is a link to the reservations site:

I just reserved spot 145 on loop 103. How do I RSVP? Or is that what I am doing now?

Please remember that I lead the polar bear plunge on Saturday morning, right before breakfast with the ranger.

No additional cost for first time attendees.

I think I RSVP'd successfully. We will be on site 145. I will not be participating in any polar bear plunge...breakfast with the ranger- maybe...

Wink Canopener 2014

Well I just RSVP'd to allay the fears of all doubters out there. I missed Cloudland which I regret terribly so Canopener or bust!
