I think this might have been asked before, how many families do we have attending with children. I know of three off the top of my head. Do we want to plan stuff for the kids?

For the Saturday menu, we will do a big pan if garlic Mac and cheese. Though we might need to borrow an oven. By the look of mine it has never been used, and I would be surprised if it worked now.

Canopener is a volunteer event. Anyone is welcome to plan, develop, and execute activities or programs. Feel free to plan some kids events and communicate date and time on this thread.

Canopenian volunteers

Thanks for all the volunteers for the set-up crew on Saturday.
I knew gathering volunteers from the tribe of Canopenians would be the easiest job I could get.

Tater,
Now that you have rounded up us Canopenian peons, you, as Canopia Lt Gov'ner
get to lean on the preverbal shovel and bark out instructions!

All this modern thinking, pre-planning, and organization is making me wistful for the old days... standing around in the cold rain while playing with electricity, figuring out how to eat while shivering, and finding another spot for the people who just showed up.

Kinda takes all the fun out of roughing it.

On the plus side, no rules, no heated fighting about rules, no law suits, no military inspired ceremonies and no cheesy uniforms.

Does that mean you will not be leading the parade before the corn hole tournament again this year?
Who will cut ribbons for the opening ceremony?
We still have hitches and tow vehicles to fight over don't we? Surely that is not against the rules.

Joe, no arguments at Canopener, just meaningful respectful discussions. As to the parade, I love a good parade and would be honored to lead it once again. It gives me a front row seat for all the action.

There is no Honor guard, no Teen Queen, no parking Gestapo, no Badge Police and no Front Row Parking.

The only places of Honor at a Canopener are the winner of the corn hole tournament and the vehicle chosen to drive the trash to the dumpster. So those planning to place their rigs in contention are advised to wash and polish them because the selection process has high standards.

Joe: great idea! Would it then qualify as a "shovel ready" project and make us eligible for Federal funding?

Ah Tim,
You know the weatherman has been toying with us the last few years with the balmy weather. We are due for a round of 19 degree nights with a pleasant breeze of 25 to 30 MPH. Top it off with the water and electric shut off for a while and you'll have your fun back in with the roughing it routine.
Last time about 50% of the rigs bailed or did not show up. Those that stayed were real Canopenians.

Yup. I forgot that roughing it means using a hair dryer to restore water to your trailer. Got to remember to keep the hair dryer above the downspout this time.

I'm still looking for more participants in the open-water swim event. It's a little lonely out in all that open ocean.
