Again looking forward to another Canopener and seeing old friends and meeting new ones. I've talked with several of you in the past regarding tire pressure and temperature monitoring systems. If you have already purchased a system, that is great. If not, then let me know and I can ship one to you or bring one for you and install it while we are there. You can best reach me at 813-781-2995. We plan to arrive on Wednesday, if not before and leave on Monday, if not later. Jerry Irene and Clancy.

Another couple may be camping with us in our bunkhouse - that depends on college football outcomes though I'm told - so possible 4 adults, a 1 year old and 3 year old and a boston terrier at our site

Canopener Map Update Coming
I'll try to do a map update in the next week. If you have made reservations and haven't recorded your name and site on the official RSVP page for Canopener 2014 (see post #2 for link), please do so. I'll only be adding you to the map if your name is on the official list.

It's probably time for me to join in with a comment about the RSVP page. Please make sure you include the names of all persons in your party when you sign up. Also indicate if this is your first Canopener.

after canopener...a trip to the keys
so we are in the planning stages for this trip and as we have not been in this area before i thought i would see what the area residents and others who have gone before offered as suggestions
1.. travel with three english cockers so this bears on where to stay
2. florida state parks seem to barely tolerate pets (dogs)...not on the beaches, not in the water and yet these destinations seem to be the most attractive at this point.
3. leaving topsail i envision heading to t h stone , manatee springs, oscar scherer, collier seminole and then to bahia honda...
4. i think i might to try for reservations now???
then on the way back out along the east side...state parks seem to be less available and more restrictive of pets..
any suggestion of where what and when will be greatly appreciated.

We stayed at John Pennekamp SP in Key Largo as Volunteers for two mo. while they were revamping the campsites. The sites are small but do now have sewer, water and power. The park is very nice, well kept, with a beach, good biking, several trails, scuba/snorkeling/kayaking/boating trips and a small aquarium near everything. A great small local restaurant is Calypso. There is a free (at the time we were there) pirates ship cruise, reservations necessary. Its about 100 miles from Key West. You will definitely need reservations. From there we went to Miami, Key West, Ft. Meyers, Everglades and more. I would be happy to help you further if I can answer any ?'s you may have. Safe Travels

Kingfisher,
Over by Mantee springs there is a cluster of County parks that allow pets.
Heart Springs
Otter Springs
I did a review of otter springs on this site.
We like otter springs overall.

Can you recommend campgrounds near Miami and Fort Myers?

I will be in Tent 17. This looks like it will be the closest to the mid 100s loop.
My transportation will be Ruby, my motorcycle.

Any spots left for a 30 footer? Is there a map of the spaces?

There should be plenty of spaces left but you will need to check the Reserve America site to make sure. There is a map link in several of the posts by Florida 55 that will show where the streamers are located, that will help you decide what space to take. Sign up and come on down!

Another dumb question...looking at the sites and being a newbie, I am not real sure what "vehicle length" means. I have a 30' AS but a BIG truck, ie a long bed HD 3500 crew cab, so the overall truck + trailer length is closer to 50'-55'. I "assume" the latter is what I should use in trying to find a spot.

While I don't know the answer for sure, I suspect that is the max length of the rv. I've stayed in 155 several times with a 29' AS and a crew cab truck. I still had lots of room. It shows max length 45' and I'm longer than that. We've had plenty of 34's at this rally.

In our vast experience camping in Florida, the max length is for trailer only. There's always plenty of room for your tow vehicle.

Yes that is my understanding as well. With a 30 ' AS you should be able to fit into most spots.

I'd suggest calling the campground office directly (not the booking service) to confirm your trailer will fit a specific spot before making the reservation. Should not be an issue for your unit in most RV sites.
