As Chief mentioned in the 2012 Canopener thread, he has passed the reins of "rally organizer" to me. And again, I want to say thanks for his efforts over the past two years as our organizer and for future efforts on this next rally (especially the video). This rally is growing in attendance and popularity due in a big part to his videos and unintentional marketing skills!

Since there has been a unprecedented interest in this rally (already 21 reservations almost 11 months in advance), I thought it would be appropriate to officially announce this rally so everyone is on the same page.

The official dates for the rally are Friday through Sunday, January 4-6, but there have been informal events the past couple of years on the Thursday night. Stay tuned for more info on that night - there will be something for you early arrivers (which there are more and more of) to do.


There will be a link posted for a signup page. We encourage each of you to RSVP, as that is the source used for planning purposes and being listed on the site map. BTW, you are encouraged to make reservations soonest, as the 103 loop (sites 101-168) is a favorite of snowbirds. The way to be co-located within everyone, and be listed on the site map, is to make that reservation in the 103 loop NOW. This is a case of “you snooze, you lose.”

Your attendance at this rally is with the understanding that it is not sponsored by any person or organization. No monies are being collected for any events, and the responsibility for all expenses is borne by individual attendees. Likewise, all liability for any accidents, personal injuries, or damages (either at the rally site or while traveling to/from) is strictly the responsibility of individual attendees. In other words, this event is the same as if you were traveling/camping on your own, and happened to arrive at a campground where many other Airstreams were staying. Organizers/hosts are only acting in the capacity of “information providers” and “facilitators,” and will be held harmless from any damage claims resulting from your attendance.

I just wanted to let everyone know that this thread will be the official Canopener 2013 thread. The thread has rally information, RSVP signups, prior rally videos, etc, and will be updated in the future as new information is available. In the past, the rally announcement didn't go out until mid-summer. This year, overwhelming demand is calling for this announcement much earlier.

For those of you who posted on the other Canopener 2013 thread in the past few days, you at least need to go to the RSVP signup page associated with this newer thread and post your names/site (see the link in post #3). If you have any questions on this subject or anything about the Canopener Rally, feel free to send me a PM.

As of 8:45 am this morning there are 27 spots in the 103 loop reserved. About 35 spots remain open on the loop. Speaks to the need to get reservations made early.

Didn't get around to booking quite as quick as I should have and lost my long time site, 155. But, I did book 157. Folks, you best reserve now and think about it later, the sites are/will go quickly. Thanks for the heads up Russ.

Our reservation was made today. We will be in site 116. We plan to arrive on Thursday, Jan 3 and leave on Sunday, Jan 6. I suppose I am not surprised that reservations are flowing in so fast. We had such a great time at the 2012 Canopener. Who knows 2013 may even be bigger and better. Thanks Russ and Linda for stepping up. You can count on us for a work detail.

Bringing this back to the top.......there are now only 19 sites remaining in Loop 103 (out of 68). Folks have really jumped at the reservation window. So, if you're thinking about attending, you might consider pointing that keyboard/mouse toward Reserve America now.........just saying!
