Margaritaville

In keeping with the Canopener mandate of all fun and no rules, someone decided to host a Cornhole tournament this year (some of the players are really serious with side bets in the hundreds of dollars ). To make sure we all have fun watching such an intense sport, Margaritaville will open around noon on Friday at site 154 and will remain open until we run out of liquid refreshment or the rangers shut us down. Margaritaville is nothing like that joint at site 118, which everyone frequents after 10:00 Saturday morning. We don't have napkins, snacks, umbrellas for our drinks or fancy glasses. We do have fair margaritas, maybe some lime and salt and a dancing muskrat. Does it get any better?

Just a quick housekeeping PS.....please note that I have added another name to our group as well as to the ranger breakfast. Our 15 year old is bringing her friend Kaitlyn. The two of them will rarely been seen or heard since all they do is listen to music on their ipods and text other friends while they "hang out" with each other. You might actually catch a glimpse of them, once in a while, on their bikes.......we do bring them just in case they decide to venture out into the real world. (They really are good kids, good students and actually play sports......)

All this talk of wine tasting, Margaritaville, etc. is getting me excited. Going to hit the road in two days and can hardly wait. The temp was only 7 this morning and that's cold by any standards.

Good morning,

A call out went out 2 weeks ago asking if someone would do coffee Sunday am. I replied but haven't heard a nay or yea yet.
Or - I've missed the post.

Janie, you got the coffee job! See Chief's post #330 (page 24) for his recipe and other information from the last Canopener. Thanks, Russ

Schedule of Events Change

Important Notice!

Due to the record turnout for this Canopener Rally, we don't have enough space in the clubhouse for everyone to sit at a table for the potluck supper. So, the revised plan is to have a "Block Party" on Wild Oak Lane (a paved road) for the potluck supper. Every campsite on this lane has an Airstream and the state park officials gave me the approval to have the block party. In fact, I've talked with the park and this "block party" theme is a popular one for different groups that come to Top Sail. The supper will start at 4pm (so we have an hour or so of daylight).

I have some volunteers bringing the folding type tables and some pop up tent canopies. We would welcome more tables (if we don't have enough people can eat on their laps). I also have extension cords lined up to run from the nearest campsite to the tables. If you have lighting to attach under the tents for the 6-8 food tables, please let me know. I would also ask that people bring lighting for their tables (you know the battery or liquid fuel types). Either way people will need to bring their own chairs. Just bring what you have at 4pm on Saturday.

I will issue a final Schedule of Events in the next day and you will also get a copy of that when you get your badges from Greg (Roadtoaster). Just to remind everyone, when you get your badges from Greg, you will get a bag with a Schedule of Events, a Campground Map, a Cornhole Tournament flyer, a Trailer Decorating Contest ballot, and a "Open House" sign that you display on your trailer indicating you are participating in the open house.

If the weather turns real cold or rainy on that Saturday, we will go to plan "B" for the potluck supper. We will go back to the clubhouse but not use all of the tables. Some people would have to eat on their laps so that everyone would fit. I'm optimistic on the weather, average temperatures are a high of 60 and average low of 37.

With an earlier supper, the tour of the trailers will start at noon instead of 1pm. We will reconvene in the clubhouse at 6:30pm (without using tables) for the door prizes, cornhole tournament winner announcement, trailer decorating contest winner annoucement, and then the entertainment (Pete Sings the Oldies). I'll incorporate these changes into a final Schedule of Events.

PM me if you would be willing to help with the block party or clubhouse set up.

Russ

The Block Party is a fantastic solution! Glad to hear the park is willing to allow it.

I remember the first Can Opener and Steve and I were asking each other who the last several people in the line were. They were not Airstreamers but the food held out and all were happy. Those SOB have no honor when it comes to free food.

Those that have the small 3x3 roll up tables please bring them as they will work for serving tables when lined up. I have 2 and will bring them.

A reminder to please identify your contribution to the pot luck as it will greatly speed up the line and protect those that might have an allergy to consider.

We will be bringing 8 or 9 six foot folding tables with us, and will bring our portable fire pit (no, not Thor, we're bringing MiniMe) and some fire wood. If others can bring some shorter (14" - 18") pieces of fire wood, we'll be in good shape. A little fire will take the chill off!

This will help take the chill off as well. It's my "recipe". I have several aged bottles that I am bringing along - made it two weeks ago...

Safe travels to all,
