Update on sites
I looked at the 2010 can Opener thread in October 2009 and found that there was 18 rigs signed up with what looks like 36 sites open in our loop 100. This year we have 25 rigs signed up and there are only 20 sites left in loop 100. More folks are booking early both with our rigs and SOB's.
If you are thinking about coming, you may want to go ahead and get a site reserved.
Newby's and wannabe's are welcome. You can see everything from brand new rig to vintage. Completely decked out and custom, to shells with sleeping bags and potty's. Be there if you can,
Joe

Weather
So far we have quite a few people already signed up but then again several of them always set up for the next year before they leave.
We will have a great turnout as always.I just hope we have a warmer one this time.
I just wanted to let everyone know that you do not have to grab a site in just the area that Chief has been posting on the map.If it does fill up,there is still a whole lot more sites on the campground and all of them are full hookups and looks the same as all the others basically.
For those who are wondering,I am still here.I have just been really busy lately.Getting ready to leave in a couple weeks for my trip.
See you all on the road or at the Can Opener 2011.
You do not have to be in a club or anything to come and join this gathering.Everyone is welcomed. So come on and join the fun.

With no certainty due to family medical issues, I have reserved site 146 again this year.
We will plan to arrive Friday, and probably leave Monday morning (unless the weather/temperature is nasty like last year.)

Mary & I have reserved site #159.
Hopefully, bad weather will not prevent us from getting over the Smokey Mountains this year.
Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Reserving a site - but have questions
We're newbies and we want to reserve a spot - but should we do it through the state park site online? Or is there another way through the group? We just bought a 1992 Excella 29'. Obviously haven't been out yet. Will we need 30 amp or 50 amp - how does that work? The dealer will tell us Tuesday when we pick up our trailer, surely, but we need to know now to reserve a site.

Howdy. Nice pictures you put up already.
Yes, reserve a spot through the ReserveAmerica website. I tried to capture a link: Campsite Map V2 - TOPSAIL HILL PRESERVE STATE PARK GREGORY E. MOORE RV RESORT, Fl - ReserveAmerica - [FL]
Hopefully that will work.
I don't know about your "new" trailer, but most just require a 30 amp feed.
When you pick up your trailer, I assume that the dealer will go through all the operation and features. You might want to have a video camera to capture that, because you (if you're like most of us) will not remember the myriad details that you will be swamped with. At the very least, take pictures, and make lots of notes. Good luck.
Is your truck also new? Nice choice, in my opinion.

Sites
Even though the site will say 50 amp on them they all have 50/30/20 that I can remember.
All the info you will need will be in the first posting of this thread. It has links to a site where you can actually see the site you have chosen.

Thanks for the replies
We wondered about the elec. - why they said 50 and we weren't sure if we needed that or 30 - glad to know it is both. Like we said - we are newbies and will have LOTS of questions for more experienced folk. Maybe by the time we get there we will at least know how to tow the thing !!
My wife (who we're signed on as) is the more talkative one.
Thanks to all who replied to us - we really appreciate the advice.

Got our reservation
We reserved site 141 starting Thursday 1/6/2011 for 4 nights. We figured we'd get there early in case it took us all day to get the rig in the site !!! LOL
This is our first rally and looking forward to meeting other AS owners and hopefully making some new friends.
I (Ray) lived in Florida from 1962 thru 1970 (graduated FSU) and from 1987 to 2006, and still consider myself a Floridian at heart.
Do we need to let anyone in particular know we made the reservation?

Update
The Canopener Map has been updated: Canopener 2011 Map - Photo Gallery
We now have 31 Airstreams on the map , but only about three families signed up for the potluck. How we gonna feed the hungry horde ??
LawChick: Welcome, you're on the map, but consider adding your name to the RSVP list: Airstream Forums - Canopener 2011
You have selected one the best rallies, and campgrounds, for your first rally. Canopener was our first rally when we bought our Airstream a few years ago....it left a lasting positive impression. You have some great neighbors next door in site #142 (The Rivets). There are several of us that will arrive on Thursday, so feel free to ask any questions.....we all had to learn the particulars of these silver cocoons, and for some of us it was the hard way! As a side note, we used to ride Harleys with some friends from Morrilton and the wife happened to be a lawyer.
To refresh memories, and give the new attendees some expectations: a large contingent normally heads over to Red Bar for dinner on Friday, followed by a happy hour in the clubhouse. Saturday morning brings some wake-up adult beverages and socializing, Open House tours after lunch, and potluck dinner at the clubhouse in the evening. Sunday morning is potluck breakfast and departure for many. I'm sure Devoman will post a more precise schedule as we get closer to January.

Aw Geez, will you folks still let us in without an AS? Our deal on the Excella we wanted sooooooooo badly went south today. The financial institutions we do business with will not finance $9,000 for a 1992 trailer. Of course, they know NOTHING about Airstreams. But, because of the tax consquences of taking money out right now, we need financing. They offered a whopping $3,400 for it - NADA value, they say. So, while we still want an Airstream...we may have to get something else first and work our way back. When doors slam shut, I've learned that sometimes it isn't good to try to pry them back open, and she DID have a lot of rust on the stabilizers, tongue, etc.
But, we still want to come and still want to eventually get an AS.
Chief: We don't have Harleys, we have a Suzuki 800 and a Honda Rebel (my little bike). I'm not sure who that would be who had Harley's. I'm uh, retiring from a position that pays considerably less than lawyers make (like policing!).

P.S. I am a good cook, and I'll gladly pitch in for the potluck. (Ya'll might like me if I make something good, even if I have to come in a stinkin' NON-AS trailer??) Gotta' think about what I want to make and I'll ante up for both meals and add to the menu later.

LawChick, don't give up on the Stream and for sure don't give up on the CanOpener. By the way, we have camped at Mt Magazine and Petit Jean, both great parks. Welcome to the Forums.

I happen to know a new AS couple has reserved 167 for the CanOpener. We met them while at Top Sail in September. More newbies!! I suspect they are lurking for now.
