More pics from the Open House - trailers (and a motorhome) on their campsites. Topsail Hill State Park is one of the nicest campgrounds around. And the weather on Saturday was about 60 degrees and very sunny - perfect!

This is my last post - many of the Canopener attendees have dogs in their families. These pics only show a few of them.

One last pic. Saturday night, after the potluck and a night beach walk by some, Mr. Slowsky (or nilesrob or Brad or Bob) had the famous Thors Cauldron of Death fired up. We had a lot of warmth and laughter (especially on the YouTube exploding whale video which CJ brought up on his iphone).

Canopener Recap

What a rally…..I need some rest! It is amazing when a group of diverse folks come together with a common goal of sharing their Airstreams, humor, food, drink, talent and dancing skills. I would say we had a successful weekend.

I want to express my appreciation, again, for the cooperation and support of many. I especially appreciate JT (Stratman) contributing his entertainment skills to our wonderful Saturday night.

One of the lessons learned during this Canopener is that it’s success is beginning to overrun some of the facilities. We had around 41 Airstreams, a couple of rented cabins, and an unknown number of invited guests. This caused us to shoehorn almost 90 people into the clubhouse for the Saturday potluck dinner (my apologies to the folks who had to fetch their own folding table because we ran out of dining tables). If there are more attendees in the future, there will have to be a solution for accommodating a larger crowd. The first couple of Canopeners held the potluck dinners outside at one of the RV sites. Outside dining is an alternative, but not a desirable one for most (no electrical hookups for the many crockpots, lighting, etc…….not to mention in climate weather).

On a personal note, Jenn and I had a blast. We have made some great friends via our attendance at Canopener rallies. We hope to attend next year, but there is a possibility that we may not be able to….time will tell!

For your viewing pleasure, the Canopener 2011 video is now on YouTube. Please don’t have your lawyer try to contact my lawyer, because I don’t have one! Enjoy……

Nice video Ron! One question - are you acting as your own attorney?

Now that was GREAT! Thank you so much for all the time and effort. My first trip to Topsail was TopClass. Everyone was so welcoming that I will certainly be there in 2012.

Sucks to be back at work.

Hi All,

We also wanted to thank everyone for making our first canopener a wonderful experience. The guests that were with us during the open house & potluck where awe struck by the overwhelming sense of community, more so than they have ever felt in there own neighborhood of 10 years. It is now not a question of whether or not the'll get an Airstream, but more a question of what size.

We hope to meet of with all or part of you before the next canopener, but we for certain will be back at site 124 next year. We also hope that Laura we be our neighbor once again so we can finally find out if she passed her "rear-end separation" test.

All the Best & Safe Travels

Speaking for Lorri and myself, we had a swell time. It's a good thing, in so many ways.

A special note of thanks to Russ for the nice laminated Open House sign. I kept that and store it over my door as a decoration, and will use it over and over to welcome people in to visit and see inside an Airstream.

Best to all!

Annette and I got back home safely today and everything was good at home. On the way home we saw an Airstream on it's side in the median of I-10 at the Bonifay exit. Don't think it was anyone with the Canopener. Looked like an Excella about 30' being pulled by an Explorer or Expedition. The TV was sitting up right and did not look like it rolled so I hope no one was injured. Emergency folks (FHP) were there so we did not stop.
Be careful out there!
Joe

Chief, after all that time and effort, what happened to require the deletion? Music copyright violation? A better one coming soon?

I liked it (generally), and showed it to Sue. (Honestly, I liked it better on "Mute" for the 1st half or so...)

Hope you're not in trouble!

Phil

Reba and I had a great time at the CanOpener. Thanks to all of those who do the work and make it one of the highlights of the year for us. It is very nice to meet new friends and see old ones. We are looking forward to next year. We left Sunday about 11:30 AM and the weather was good through Montgomery,AL. We live about 45 miles north of Montgomery on Lake Martin near Alexander City and the roads were dry until about 10 miles from home. It began to sleet and by the time we reached home at 6:00 PM, there was about 1/4 inch of ice on the Airstream. I am sorry for all of those who may have had to drive further north of Birmingham. We look forward to seeing many of you at Springsteam in April.
Frank and Reba
