I'm interested! Sent you a pm this morning... hoping it's still available before I log into Reserve America. Sure would be nice to be with the AS gang - someone experienced in coaxing the vintage h/w heater to fire up. *Halimer* was able to assist last February. Not much luck since then. Will also be celebrating my B-day on Jan 9! I'll be 29 ..... again.

I've heard a rumor that some fine sippin' whiskeys will be shared Friday and/or Saturday nights. Not sure where, not sure when and not sure how much will be shared, but it will be a good time to tell lies and laugh away the worries of the world. Mark this one on your calendar. If you don't like sippin' whiskey, come anyway (with or without your favorite beverage). I'll post more details once I have them.

Hi Pat,

You're right, there are not currently any sites open in our campground area, but the campground is exceptionally nice and other sites (look at the map 2air posted) are very close.

Since you are arriving on the 5th, which is earlier than most people, there are sites in our area that the campground holds back for walk-ins (sites 102,104,106,113,149, and 150). Maybe make your reservation now for a site just outside the entrance to our area and when you arrive, try to move and get one of these walk-in sites.

Another very likely possibility is that someone will cancel their reservation for the CanOpener. There have been at 2-3 cancellations in the last couple of weeks and those sites became available. Check this thread a couple of times a day and be ready if someone announces they are cancelling.

just 2 expand on russ's note,

some of the sites OUTSIDE the back loop are more private, closer to the lake or have less traffic...

than those IN the loop but near front/entry/exit, so look at d'map.

they are ALL easy 4 parking, level, with full hookups and in FLORIDA...

the first year the pot luck was OUTDOORS (this worked great) as was the happy hour and breakfast...

so it made more sense to be clustered around the chow...

using the club house, basically EVERYONE has to walk (or drive) the 100 yards OUT of the loop...

which means carrying food/beverage/kids and the naked twister away from the can'o'streams...
__________

also keep an EYE on the rally rsvp page...

Airstream Forums - Canopener 2011

that particular page can be UPDATED or entries erased/revised by EACH individual...

it's really the best list, because it's dynamic and doesn't require others to modify/edit personal entries ...

for example someone who is on the YES page, can change their info to NO...

or someone on the MAYBE list can update to YES/NO and with totally NEW comments...

the comments are completely revisable by EACH member using that page.

try it!

cheers

Devoman or Chief

It appears that (sites 102,104,106,113,149, and 150) are held by Top Sail for walk ins. Considering the fact that we have reserved the balance of the sites in the loop do you think it would be worth while to contact the Campground, in the name of the Can Opener, and ask if they would move those site to the other section for our weekend and take reservations directly through Top Sail.

Now yes that is asking a government employee to take an action but considering our history and their cooperation with the club house the Superintendent might just react and allow us to post those sites as available here on this thread rather than have people reserve outside the loop and attempt to change once they get there.

Just food for thought

I know Chief is on a cruise for another day or two but this does seem like a good idea. Maybe he can make it happen. No pressure Chief, just make a plan and get it done!

Funkill,

How did you guess my two favorite dishes. Look forward to seeing you again bring your cup. Jan is bringing more to the rally if anyone will be interested in having an Airstream mug.

Anyone heading to the Canopener from the North on Jan 5, 2011?? We would like to meet up with you and caravan down. We are pretty flexible. We have reservations starting Jan 6. We are in Dandridge, TN. This is just East of Knoxville.

Sure hope Levon made a bigger batch this year!

I will be there with snifter in hand.
