Do you think that trail that goes behind the campsites and the trail towards the beach are dangerous? What is proper caution and due diligence? I don't want our dogs to be casualties or me either.
I would heed the warning signs and stay away from the edges of the fresh water ponds. City Park in New Orleans has several canals and a number of dogs have been grabbed by alligators as the dogs were walked along the banks of the canals. The boy who was attacked had been warned about the alligators and went in the water anyway. I just would be alert and stay on designated paths.
I agree with Jim. Keep away from the ponds, swampy areas, and canals. However, I've walked all of the trails around the back the campground with the dog. No water features near the trail, and no problems.
Thanks for the reminders. I keep forgetting about the gators, forget every time. A word of caution was in order for those of us Northerners. You know the Muskies are so big they ate all our gators long ago.
But my first trip to Florida several years ago, I traveled across Alligator Alley and stopped at the rest stop and scenic view and walked over to the water to take pictures of the birds and the cool flowers in the water at ground level, stooped down. When I got home and enlarged my pictures guess who was watching, unbeknownst to me and apparently swimming towards me?! I had thought gators all lie in the sun and move real slow like zoo gators.

Gee, I go away from the boards for four days and this thread pops up, grows to 50 post and we get roped into hosting another cocktail party! Well, I guess we'll just have to give in and do it.
We reserved site 122 in February so we would have a site large enough this year. I didn't want the responsibility for anyone getting run over in the street while under the influence. It will be great to see every one again. If gas prices do continue to drop, we'll all feel like a weekend in Florida will be a bargain. Our gas prices have dropped $.11 in five days and nearly .$50 in the last month. Keep on heading south petrol so we all can afford to head south in January!
We will do our usual 2:00 AM sneak in on Saturday morning so you early risers don't rattle the pans too loud when you start cooking the bacon and eggs and we'll try to keep from raising the diesel engine too loud when we pull in.
SafariSS, it will be good to have another 30' Bunk in attendance. So far we have had at least two each year. Not sure if Rich L will be able to attend this year because his daughter is supposed to start a new school this fall. He was at the first along with a young family from Columbus, GA with their 30' Safari each of the first and second years.
Don't know what we will bring to the potluck yet so I'll keep that open. Everybody plan on bringing your favorite beverage, adult or otherwise, by our site before the potluck for the raffle. Those that want can bring a light snack, but remember we'll all need to save room for the tasty victuals at the potluck. We'll get together on this thread as the Can Opener draws near to set the time.
'Till then, happy camping and Happy Holidays!

We walked around the ponds in and out of the woods at last year's rally, and there were no gators to be seen. The water was cold enough that any gator that decided to winter over in the ponds would have been too cold to be aggressive.
