O.K. then if you wanna go self contained...

Mitchell's Caverns off I-40. No hookups but water is availible.

Fantastic Cavern Tour too.

I don't have a clue. I hope someone tells me eventually.

If we want the best chance of being warm. We should go to San Diego or Death/Panamint Valley.

vail lake

Kevin, have you stayed up in the Chardonney area? It has a lot of grassy areas and some views of the lake. When we walked thru the Oaks area it was all dirt and if there is any rain it could be pretty messy. ....and it was too low to have lake views. The Rincon loop was also suggested as a group area but none of the sites come with tables.

Sounds like we're still campground shopping?? I have another suggestion if coming as far south as San Diego is still under consideration. Dos Picos park in the "hill country" above Northern San Diego. County park, limited facilities, cheaper rates. No wineries, casinos or hot air balloons, but some antique shopping and short drive to Julian-apple pie country. Here's website, click on the reservation link and then you can view individual campsites by clicking on them on the map.

Or how about Indian Oaks Trailer Ranch in Temecula
Full hook ups @ $35.00 per night.
Partial: $25 (Elec/Water)

Indian Oaks

Looks like a fun spot!

"Dos Picos park in the "hill country" above Northern San Diego." ...Leslie

Hey you California folks...Dos Picos is a nice park. We were there in May... There's a "caravan" section on top of a little hill that sets apart from the rest of the park...with sites that circle a common pavillion. On the map at the website it's that loop on the left side of the map up the road past campsites 47 & 48... I don't know if you can reserve that area as a group or not... Actually the whole park is nice, as are all the San Diego County Parks we visited.

One more vote for Vail Lake and then I rest my case. We'll go wherever you guys want. Here is a picture from our campsite. The water in the distance is Vail Lake. The view is hard to beat. Ron

str8s,

no i haven't been to any other area other than the vintage Oaks portion, and i shouldn't be giving advice. when i was there is was 105 outside and well, i was over beveraged. you're correct, it's all dirt (the oaks) which works in the summer, and if it rains in the winter, welcome to mudville. so i'll shut up.

nice place though...

as far as tables go, most are boondockers and can adapt.

kevin

your spot is nicer than the vintage portion of the oaks, no question.
