AdventuReallynotaRally to Kings Canyon/Sequoia NP

Up for a spon? We're headed up the Sierra's on Memorial Day weekend to find nirvahna...or close relative. I tried to create an Event in the Rally Calendar. I'm not sure if I did it correctly. If so, the current plan is posted. If not, the current plan is slightly more than what you already know.Tim

memorial weekend

Hi tim, we really missed you at pismo - lots of sand hills for the boys to climb. So, i guess you are saying that there might be a rally or nonrally in the sierra's over memorial weekend. I looked & couldn't find anything - but i'm not very good at finding things - any information or thought would be great - jacob says hi to gabe - we hope to hear from you - any word is a good word....thanks, teke

I hope the trip goes better than my attempt to post the trip on the forum! We're going to the mountains. There is a plan...not a very good plan...but a plan nonetheless.
1. Our intel reports good sites @ Peppermint Campground (elev. approx 7000 ft)
2. Plan to meet up @ Camp Nelson (convenience store) on Thurs, 5/21 btwn 4 and 7 PM.
3. Caravan to campsite.

Any additional advice and or guidance would be appreciated. It would be great if Jacob and family could attempt the journey. Sorry we missed the Pismo extravaganza. This should be quite an adventure.

Tim

O'neil Park - Orange County - May 29-31st 2009

Just letting everyone know we are spending a couple nights at O'neil Park this weekend if anyone wants to join. It's a nice park, but no hookups. Looking forward to trying this out for the first time

Sorry I missed all the weekend fun...I tend to stay around home on Memorial Day due to the crowd factor. How did everyone's weekend go? Were you able to get campsites at Sequoia? Keep posting all those spontaneous trips...you never know WHO might show up!

The only real plan was to have FUN!!!

We went caving, hiking, exploring, climbing, shopping, biking...all from our Silver base camp in Grant Grove Village. We chopped and sawed wood for the campfire...boy, that General Grant Sequoia burns long and hot!

Arrived late Thursday evening at Azalea campground (elev. approx. 6400 ft) to find many $18/nite campsites available. Wooded sites with bear boxes and fire rings.

Free wifi is available at the Visitor's Center. Considering moving to site and conduct Airstream tours of Glenn and Nancy's rig to tourists seeking a photo op. I'm sure we can make BANK on pics and silver souvenirs.

There was very little traffic on Thurs. Returned to LA late Monday and encountered moderate traffic on the Grapevine and Valencia. Other than that, pretty open. We even took a short tour of Allensworth State Park on the way home (future Rally site?!).

Too many things to do in the time we had available. Hope you can join us next time.

Tim

Orange County California - OC Parks
Do they accept reservations or is it first come first served?

Wow Sequoia sounds like a winner.
Great photos.
Who knew sites would be available on a holiday weekend.
Next time I'm on board with a posse!
Excellent scouting, scout Can.

They accept reservations. We camped there quite a bit a little while back when the grand children were younger.
Note: they strictly prohibit alcoholic beverages. I have seen people get evicted there for drinking at their campsites. Fortunately, I didn't get caught.
