It seems like perfect timing that I found this forum. I’d be glad to be of assistance if anyone wants to visit Austria. Just let me know how I can help.

Also thanks for sharing playa photos, once I’m done sorting mine I’ll post a link too.

You guys were great - enjoyed meeting you both. I think JuJu and I still owe you some gin & tonic's.... next year!

Cheers

Thanks for joining us! We had a wonderful eclectic group this year, and amazing how many were understanding Ray's talk on deep space dark matter.

This looks preliminary, but the MOOP map seems to say we were CLEAN again!!!!

Congratulations you guys!!!

I was tempted to say something a couple of days ago, but wasn't sure if that little red dot at 2:35 & J was just within your boundary or not (it didn't look like it).

That dot appears to be on the other side of the street from us, I'm hoping.

1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.

2. A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.

3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

— Isaac Asimov, I, Robot

The Most Human Human

In his landmark 1950 paper “Computing Machinery and Intelligence,” the mathematician, philosopher and code breaker Alan Turing proposed a method for answering the question “Can machines think?”: an “imitation game” in which an “interrogator,” C, interviews two players, A and B, via teleprinter, then decides on the basis of the exchange which is human and which is a computer.

Turing’s radical premise was that the question “Can a machine win the imitation game?” could replace the question “Can machines think?”

“The Most Human Human,” is an illuminating book about the Turing test. In 2008, a computer program called Elbot came just one vote shy of breaking Turing’s 30 percent silicon ceiling. The occasion was the annual Loebner Prize Competition, at which programs called “chatterbots” or “chatbots” face off against human “confederates” in scrupulous enactments of the imitation game. The winning chatbot is awarded the title “Most Human Computer,” while the confederate who elicits “the greatest number of votes and greatest confidence from the judges” is awarded the title “Most Human Human.”

Hi Andreas,

I will be in Bobing, Germany from 24 Nov to 14 Jan. How far are you from there? It's located about an hour south of Munich.

2018 Newbies...

Hello there fellow Airstreamers!

We are determined to take the plunge this year and GO!

Luckily, we live relatively close to the event (two hour west of Reno). In fact, we have room for stopovers if anyone needs one (four acres of flat land five minutes off of hwy 80).

I'm sure there will be lots of planning and a new thread started, but thought I'd pop a note here.

Thank you in advance for being so welcoming! We have friends in two other camps but always feel comfortable around our fellow silver folks.

Our rig is a partially restored, 1972 27' Overlander. We're members of the Lake Tahoe Airstream Club. We're older than our trailer but not dead yet!

Happy Holidays!

Welcome! Bam hasn't started the Burning Man 2018 planning thread yet, probably in a few weeks when the snow gets deep. We'll put a link to it up here when it's started. Tickets are always a crap shoot anymore but somehow we usually find everyone a ticket somehow in the end.
