Burning Man 2013! Planning thread...

Yes Happy Campers, apparently it is that time again...already.
Even as we are finding odd bits of playa dust still in the cracks and crevices,
it is time to begin planning anew for another year on the playa.

This thread is for Airstreamers planning to attend Burning Man 2013.

Dates are: August 28th - September 2nd, 2013.

Again as we always say, Burning Man is not for everyone. It is a noisy, crazy boondocking environment in rough weather conditions. If you have not attended before, please go to burningman.com and read everything you can, especially the First Timers Guide and all the preparation info. We are not debating the merits of the big festival in the desert here. This is for those who plan to attend and want to plan the details of another theme camp on the playa.

It is not mandatory to be part of a theme camp to attend Burning Man. You are welcome to go by yourself or with friends and camp without being part of a theme camp. If you would like to be part of the Airstream Forums Camp (Airstreameri and Geologists and Randomologists) all are welcome and encouraged to participate as space permits.

Please sign up on the rally calendar early in 2013 so we can get a rough tally of who will be showing up.

There is no fee to be part of our camp and everyone must buy their own ticket to the festival. Tickets are not on sale yet but will be in early 2013. Check the Burning Man website for current announcements. You make your own arrangements when the tickets go on sale.

Looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting all the blushing birgins.

Cheers!

WooHoo, can't wait! I have a "new to me" 73 Safari that will be my official Burning Man Airstream. I just finished installing all LED lights, so I might be able to go the entire week without running the genset.

Did you get the right date, Bam? I see August 26 as a Monday.

Cargo Cult the theme this year they say is, just as we tried to toss out some of the tonnage we carry everywhere. Welcome home everyone, we only have 8 months left to come up with our usual perfect spontaneous spiff. Plann on!

Now this year I will be there!!! The Silver Olive is under renovation and is anxious to be part of the party. I won't move anywhere until Burning Man is under my belt.

This will be my sixth burn I think, but I want to go in style with a new-to-me airstream. Still looking for one...daily in fact. If any of you come across a 19' Bambi or similar (Globetrotter, etc) for around 15,000 or under, please send me a notice. I will travel to buy it anywhere in the US if it's worth it. Actively pursuing...

I don't know if we'll be camping with you all directly, but I know I'm going to need to advice of seasoned streamers at the BURN, so if you don't mind me following the threads, I'd be most appreciative.

Thanks everyone for welcoming me in. Crossing fingers for my dream getaway home.

The rally calendar can be found by clicking on "calendar" on the blue bar at the top of the page. Then go to the month of the event you are interested in.

Welcome T-Rex. It is wonderful to be cozied up in an Airstream during those dust storms.
Not that it isn't an adventure to find yourself wandering directionless on the playa.
Good luck in your search.

And Winebuff, I do know some Portland Burners who drive to the playa every year.
Let me know if you'd like their info. I come from CA.

I'll be back too! I have ideas churning over the stove and a list of gift items that gets longer daily!

The best part will be reconnecting with new friends from 2012!

Cheers!

That would be great. I went and met a few of the PDX burners a week ago at happy hour. Going to drive down via Summer Lake and stay a night there first. I do know Rhonda who camped with all of you this past year. Now we just need ticket info!

the huskyfans are pencilled in for 2013. BM is the most fun you can have with your clothes on. or not.

I love love love the Cargo Cult theme. must admit I had to go look it up.
the landing strip idea is great! maybe we could line the 'streams up in rows on either side and put up some landing strip type lights. park the vehicles behind.

will definately get our tutus on this year!!

The landing strip would be big fun.
(Who knows who or what may land there)
Maybe we'll be Airstreameri, Geologists, and Aliens.

For a good camping spot near Black Rock City, camp at the Squaw Valley Reservoir. The campsite on the north side has grass and fire rings. The "private" gate says "you can camp here, just follow the rules." It's only 29 miles to the Burning Man site.

We'll be there. I too am planning on (finally) having a tutu. I also have a bunch of wonderful lavender fur that matches my bike. We'll see what happens.

We'll probably be camping with Ranger Outpost Berlin again, if they'll have us. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again.

Happy cargo, all!

Bm '13

Although I am still cleaning playa dust out of my Airstream, truck, and lungs I am getting excited about 2013. Originally I had planned to do BM just once as a "bucket list" item, but 2012 was such an amazing experience I might do it again next year.

I can't say I'm committed to this years event with my new yet to be built EB. But I'm subscribing to this '13 edition, for news.
