Husky fan, I agree and will forgo our usual blue for silver. It will match the duct tape as well.

Make sure to use heavy duty tie downs. The playa is hard to drive light weight things in to. Some people use rebar with tennis balls or something on top to prevent being impaled. That can be even more annoying than your tarp being ripped to shreds in the wind.

And always accent with solar or battery powered lighty blinky things to prevent those midnight wanderers from tripping. It's always awkward the next morning to find one face down in the dust with their foot stuck in the tie down.

MOOP = matter out of place, trash
LNT = leave no trace (of ever having been there)
Do not bring feathers or glitter or nuts with shells or any thing that will shred leaving tiny bits to chase down.

And Dan and Dan, I think you're on the right track with the shade structure.
Sounds very promising...

Bam, I need some idea of parking configuration...... Not exact but something I can wrap my engineering head around. I've been trying to e-mail Perry for several days as I found him a 12vdc swamp cooler. Maybe his connection is bad. If you have a better way to connect can you give him this info.

Dan, I've done the parking layout for the last 3 years. We started with circling the wagons, with two Airstreams to fill in each corner. This wasn't quite achieved in practice. The next year we had two groups concentrated at the ends of the reserved rectangle, with an open area in the middle and a wide opening to the street. Last year we had our common area along the street, with most Airstreams paired up head to toe so they could share a small common area between them, protected by their awnings.

The last arrangment worked well, except we need to enclose our common area a bit more. Also, if we are placed near 3:00, that means the orientation of our space will be long in the north-south direction--parking across that dimension, eg, generally aligned pointing east-west, provides the best protection from the wind. This is critical for those parked on the south end of our space.

In practice, we follow the general rule of a central common space, then fill in based on arrival time/day, length, wind consideration, early departure plans (if any), and access for the sewage truck. That's a lot easier than trying for a defined configuration, which has always fallen apart due to circumstances.

If you want to see drawings, previous plans are posted in past BM threads.

I like it, might be more than we need. Some talks will be after potluck Wed, other question periods maybe Thursday or maybe Saturday or Sunday afternoon pre burns. (We ask the questions, passerbys have the answers. We intend on being dysfunctional..) Somebody score some scoring number sets so we can score and heckle passerbys.

Thanks, not sure it would do the job. Has anybody used one of these Igloo swamp coolers? Dang that link won't work. I'm looking for a small DC swamp cooler like Monty uses. My AC one looses efficiency with the 20% loss (heating) converting 12V DC to 110 AC.

I use a AC powered cooler converted from DC, powered by 2 golf cart batteries, powered by a 75 watt solar panel. The cooler pulls .41 Amps (50 watts) AC. I don't use a generator (noise, fumes, cost) and have ample power to pump h2o for trailer & shade misting, LED xmas lights, grind coffee, etc.
