Wow...tickets for Burning Man go on sale next month...already!

Thought I'd toss out a thread so we can start gathering Burners and Birgins
and possible ideas for yet another Airstream Rally in the dust.
This year the date is August 29 - September 2, 2011.

Although it is holiday time and everyone is scampering including Perry and the Geologists.
(I mean really, who doesn't want rocks in their Christmas stockings?)

We are all in the midst of busy days ahead but now is the time to ask Santa for that
Utilikilt, headlamp, hydration pack, new bike, and all manner of sparkly blinky lighty things.

And as the new year approaches it is time to reflect...
Are we Airstreameri Theming again?
Shall we craft more signage/decor?
Construct more interactive structures?
Have another community event or two?
Park differently?
Have a central meeting area?

Sit on our lounge chairs with a frosty or warming seasonal beverage and ponder the meaning of it all?

What say you?

I'd say that's a rock hard analysis Bam Camper so dear, there'll be lots of geologists sharing the playa dust we cherish so much.
Maybe we'll find diamonds and glitter and silver and gold and frankincense and myrr in the our analyis of the dust so exotic and fluff.

I'm working on upgrading the Sovereign, finishing some of the cabinet doors and a new maple eyebrow locker. Maybe I'll even have time to get some new gaskets on the windows.

I liked the parking methodology from this year--early entries post at the corners and then ad-hoc it. The only improvement would have been a single center, rather than the two we wound up with. I don't know about anyone else, but I was convinced that parking east-west was the best. You folks who were parked north-south, eg, parallel to Baghdad, seemed to creat wind tunnels rather than wind breaks.

Are Argosy trailers welcomed at the Airstream camp or is it for Airstream trailers only?

We even accepted a couple of SOBs in 2010, but they had to beg! On he other hand, you're part of the forums, so you can look forward to only a minimal amount of groveling.

Ha! The Argosy would pass the village participation test, he could give demonstrations how the Argosy fends off the mid day sun.

I'm looking at both used Airstream and Argosy trailers with the goal of being able to bring the trailer to Burning Man 2011. I have attended the last two burns with a Coleman tent trailer and I'm ready to move up to a hard-sided trailer. I didn't know if an Argosy is considered a "second class citizen" in Airstream circles.

Only a second class citizen is concidered as a second class citizen with respect to Airstreaming or Burning Man.

Now that my coach has a new axle from andy's AND the 4runner got it over the grapevine, slowly yes but we still made it (so I-80 should be ok), my interest is growing about attending in 2011. im a burgin but am intimately acquainted with similar tribaloid gatherings. sign me up.

OK - thinking of heading to Burning Man for the first time and as one of those picky airstreamers I have a question: is my trailer going to get sand-blasted? or is it just dusty?? My husband will freak out if paint or aluminum damage is involved so we might choose to bring something not so pristine if we can look forward to sand storms. Thanks in advance for any info for a new-bie!

It's more like talcum powder than sand, really.

The dust inside is what people have a hard time with. If you cover everything with plastic before you leave home, and are religious about keeping the windows and door closed, you won't have much trouble with it.
If the dust bothers you too much a cocktail of gin and vermouth can ease the anxiety greatly!

If you have an awning, sitting outside isn't bad at all. Even inside it's not terrible unless you have to button up for a dust storm. Get yourself a 12V fan. I've found that if you can just keep the air moving inside, the "dry heat" is tolerable for a couple of hours.

The dust really isn't an issue at all. No damage, just some cleaning when you get home.
The winds do get very strong so dust can sneak in the cracks.

Being a coastal person the heat mid day does get to me. I bring a genny so I can have AC.
It seems everyone wants to hang out in my trailer when I have the air on.

It depends on what your heat tolerance is. Outside in the shade is doable most days.

Oh, and you occasionally get some rain. The weather varies of course but count on really hot and windy.
