You can't buy nothing in Black Rock City. except

Last minute note for the newbies: You can't use money at Black Rock City, everything is done on gifting basis. Except ICE and COFFEE, and for our special needs; there are VACUUM TRUCKS roaming the city to gladly pump out our holding tanks, you flag one down and they'll gladly take $60 or so to relieve you of your past reliefs if your tanks are needing relief. We usually try to park so they can get to the reliefing end of your A/S, and sometimes there's a group effort to snag a truck Wed or Thursday, always right when you're out the door for the Artery tour or the middle of potluck. Just thought you might be worrying about that halfway out to Gerlach.
Oh, the road to Gerlach. Fill up before you leave Fernley or Wadsworth or Alturus, sometimes the line in or out can back up for hours. There's gas in Empire and Gerlach, but only one or two pumps.
Oh, and GPS or maps will tell you it's only an hour and half up the road, NAW, every one in front of you is pulling a U-Haul with a speed limit of 45, relax and enjoy the view of Ancient Lahontan Lake beach gravel deposits riming the hillsides, and those Turtle looking things by that dry lake bed are siliceous and dolomitic crystalline Travertine.

I was about to send medicine (produced in Napa, of course) and an intravenous drip. Glad you recovered. I'll be demonstrating digital moving maps throughout the week...

OK, I'm heading out of Salt Lake in the wee hours in the morning. See some of you on Saturday! I like US 50, the loneliest highway, including the southern detour through Old 50. Some nice camping spots up high along that segment. So it will be a great drive.

Hi-yo, Burners,
Zep

sorry for the last minute cancellation - we will still be coming to the playa but have been roped into another camp (with our kids friends and stuff). We will certainly visit our shiny brethren.

Babs and I got home late Sunday and are still cleaning up dust. Just wanted to thank all the experienced Burners for making our 1st burn so much fun. Have to get busy cleaning so we are ready for Balloon Fiesta. P.S. Zep, I have your chocks and will bring them to ABQ.

Darn it Taz, I don't think anyone in our camp had any internet connection after Saturday so we couldn't read this till we got out into the alternate world.
Idea for next year, what would it take for our camp to have some kind of internet connection. Most don't want one but I was needing to check if my company had some place for me to go to this week or end of last week, and my company phone don't work north of Nixon.

We're home and washed and sorting pictures.

Unfortunately, my pack fell off Roboshaw on Sunday with my point and shoot camera in it, so about half my pictures are currently AWOL. I still have the big camera, so pics from those will go up this week. The small camera had my potluck and Roboshaw ride pictures, so I really hope the pack shows up in Lost and Found.

It was wonderful meeting everyone and being able to spend time socializing and getting to know everyone better, veteran burners and newbies alike. What a congenial group we had!

Yes, it was a great group and a fun camp we had this year!

Still sorting photos myself and rewashing the dust off things.
Ah, decompression.

Hope your backpack turns up soon Barbie.

More later...

I did stop by right around the time of the "sat photo", but most didn't seem like they wanted to hang out, or even knew about the forum. So I waited for the roads to clear of people posing for the picture and went back to my camp. Next year, ping me about creating a wifi cloud for your camp. It is after all part of what I do out there. Less then $200 bucks...
