By tonight you should receive individualized notification whether you are placed
or not, and if you are, where?
Don't know if you're still up, NevadaGeo, but didn't that message say "By tonight"???

Not that I'm eager to learn whether or not we're placed or anything, not that I'm reading lists of art installations and itching to get out there with my camera, not that I'm just plain impatient. Nope, no, not me, nope.

But let us know as soon as you hear, okay?

Thanks for all you do dealing with our application and volunteering and all.

Airstreameri Swag

Okay, I've ordered some swag for my bestest Airtreamer type friends from a friend of Ron's; ArtStream has been working on the artwork. It will look something like this but a Stainless steel, laser etched dog tag with ball chain. I can afford the minimum order of 100, if someone wishes to add to the order or make another order of the less expensive aluminum but the minumum order of 300 is out of my range, feel free :

Which we can wear at::::::From BlackJack at 1:46AM:
Congratulations!!!

It is our pleasure to inform you that Airstreameri and Geologists has
been officially placed for Burning Man 2011: Rites of Passage! Your
approximate location is Funeral & 3:00 and will measure approximately
250 x 150+ feet.

What does that mean? It means your camp has frontage on Funeral. The
second part specifies the general area or nearest cross street (3:00).
The width of your frontage is 250 feet, and depth back from the frontage
is 150+ feet. A plus or minus means that your camp has an irregular
shape.

You might be wondering why we're not giving a more exact address or
exact layout, and that's simply because there are still a number of
variables that may occur right up until the day your camp arrives on the
Playa. We try to accommodate camps as much as possible, and sometimes
that means making changes up until the very end. Don't worry, because
we really do have everyone's best interests at heart!

We have on record that your camp requested x early arrival bar codes and
were approved by the Placement team for x. When they arrive, your
advance team must contact your placer - if arriving before Thursday
noon, they must ask the Gate staff to radio your placer. If they arrive
after noon on Thursday then they must ask a Greeter staff to radio your
placer. We will then show you to your very own spot on the Playa!

Please note: If your ticket is at Will Call, do not arrive before noon
on Wednesday, August 24, when the Box Office Will Call opens. Each
camper must have both their ticket and a unique Early Arrival Bar code
in hand to enter Black Rock City before our event opens to the general
public. We will be sending out more detailed information about the
Early Arrival Bar Code distribution in our Theme Camp Announcements so
please stay tuned.

In case you're curious, this was a record-breaking year for placement!
We received over two hundred more questionnaires than last year, very
nearly hitting the 1,000 camp mark! We have also been able to place
almost 150 more camps than last year, meaning that you'll have more
registered theme camp neighbors than ever before!

So kick those plans into high gear - it's only 50 days until the man
burns! And we can't wait to see you there.

Sincerely,
BlackJack

OK, I'll get to work on a notional layout, now that we have dimensions. I'm betting it works out something like last year, but having a drawing to start with is good.

Woo and HOO.
Funeral and 3:00.
If you rearrange the letters in "funeral",
you get "real fun".

First Time!

It's time to get ready for Burning Man!
We have our tickets.
We have many questions.

Do we have a spot at Funeral 3 o'clock?

We're coming from Chicago. Is there anyone else from around here?
Do you meet/rally somewhere outside Burning Man a day prior?
If so, where? If not, how do we find you there?

Generators. Do you all bring them? Does everyone run them all day?
If so, isn't that a lot of noise?

We're excited!

#1. If you have not gone before, or it's been awhile, please please please read the survival guide.

#2. Our camp is indeed placed somewhere near 3'rd and F => exact placement will be shown to us on-playa by the placer person.

#3. There may be someone else from Chicago in our camp; there will certainly be other burners from Chicago .

#4. Some folks may rally ahead of time; you may wish to suggest that for folks coming from the east. We're driving in early (needs special arrangement from BM folks) from SF Bay area; we may be camping overnight on the way in... but are usually pretty focused on getting there.

#5. Generators are often an issue. Some folks run them; most didn't last year. Keep in mind that many people choose to sleep late so that they can party until dawn or so.. passive cooling (reflectiex in windows, shade) are important tools at Burning Man. Tending a genny for a week is not fun.

Do you guys want me to take pics of your space, and tell you exact where you are early?

Hey Taz, that would be terrific! The placement team doesn't know for sure when they send out the accept announcement, Just that we'll be the Airstream camp on F near 3:00. But picts now will look like most of the rest of the playa though, won't it?
Aside, I'm in western NY this week for a Funeral, but at 8 tomorrow.

Sorry to hear the reason for your trip Perry.

On a lighter note, only about a month to go!
Time to dust off that random box of Burning Man stuff.

Btw, I do use a generator. Not all day and not early AM.
Many people do. I don't handle extreme midday heat as well as some.

But as far as noise goes, it really is never actually quiet on the playa.
There is always loud music of all sorts, partying 24/7,
and just when you drift off, an art car comes by with a new surprise.

Bring good ear plugs and a flexible attitude.

I'll see the actual maps before most do. They print up a pile of these massive ones for us to use out there. We're talking 4'-6' in size.

Golden stake is the 31rst, I'll have internet up a week from Friday (a few days before fence for testing our new licensed microwave gear), then fence goes up on the 8th.. Then it's a mad crazy rush to build the whole thing..

I second the need for genny use during the heat of the day. My best survival tactic is noon time bloody mary's followed by a long nap till 6:00 or so, ear plugs in and AC blazing. You don't really need the genny till around 11:00 a.m. or so and once it gets dark the playa cools off rapidly.
