Not fun, but Black Rock City is evolving. The restriction comes from LEO and perhaps higher wanting some small percentage of mutants per number of city residents, doesnt' come from DMV. I can't wait to see some of the spectacular moving art we have this year! Placement does the same thing I think so I'm really astounded we got placed. We'll get the word to step it up a whole lot to get placed next year, not sure when.

Brian's is up and running; it takes time to build from scratch, rather more than adding fur to a golf cart . Here's hoping a lot of folks don't end up bringing their vehicles - having one third of the folks build their creations, schlep them to the playa and then fail approval would make for an difficult scene at the DMV.

Thanks for the heads up! See you all in the dust!

Miss you already! I'm in Reno (ahh, hot shower). Thank you all for my first, wonderful burn. What a blessing to be able to camp with you. Safe travels! I'll maybe stop by Lamppost Pizza tomorrow (Tuesday). Forum-friending you now... - "Archie"

We're back in the default world.... getting home took 13 hours; next time I'm staying another day! Both mutant vehicles and the Tin Pickle arrived safe and sound; all need a thorough deplayafication.

We had a wonderful time socializing; it's so nice to put real faces behind the posts!

Barbie will likely post pictures in a very few days....

Take care all, and safe (and w/o excessive traffic!) journeys!

It took us about 13 hours as well. We left the Playa at 5:01am yesterday, were on the road exactly an hour later and then got home to the Bay Area around sixish (and that was with us hopping on and off 80W-taking the off ramp and then getting back on the on ramp - which saved us over an hour in drive/wait time and allowed us to spend an hour at the Colfax, California highway rest stop to enjoy an impromptu Labor Day picnic http://www.airforums.com/forums/f472...tml#post891914, which was really rather amazing since we had packed all of the picnic items on the 24th of August). Sorry for the crazy run-on sentence.

The image below is of Gemma with our "Beverly Hillbillies" truck at the Colfax, California rest stop.

Happy and safe journeys,

Thank You!

Dear Friends,

Thank you for making us feel so welcome when we visited your camp. We had a great time seeing old friends and making new ones.

The image below is of two freshly showered, albeit with really dry skin and bronzed glows, happy campers. We'll post some Playa images as soon as we download them.

We hope everyone had a great Burn. We'll look forward to see you on the Playa next year!

Your friends,

Wink Back to reality

Hi all,
I decided to stay an extra day because I was having a little to much fun : ) so I left the playa around 8:00 this morning and got home around 1 ish. It was smooth sailing out of the Playa this morning so Bart next time stay. We had a wonderful feast that Mark cooked for everyone on the last night. I had so much fun with everyone. I never would have guessed that I could have so much fun in a windy dust storm so I suspect it was the company that made it so fun. I hope to see you all again soon. Tomorrow I will be cleaning the Airstream and truck it's so dirty. Maybe I will be able to make a clay pot : )

Here are a few pictures from our burn:
The first is the double rainbow that greeted us at the end of our first day. The water is part of our supply in addition to the trailer's tank. The wood is for an outside shower that stood in our evaporation pond since we haven't finished the shower inside the trailer. Next year, we'll only need an evap pond since our trailer will be tankless (composting toilet replaced black tank).
Second is Bart (barts) walking with NevadaGeo next to our trailer.
The third picture is of our whole camp taken early one morning from a platform someone built of scaffolding nearby.

a few pics

My son was still able to activate a camera, so he took these pics for me.
It was great to meet a few more Streamers. I wish I'd had more time to visit. Playa-time is hard to figure out though
Mark and summer, have a great trip. Julie, it was fun riding on the art car and visiting with you, and thanks for the cold drink. Gemma & Murray, thanks for the WONDERFUL crawfish feasts and the curry and salmon, and the great company, and the wonderful swag, and I don't know what else, but THANKS!
I was hoping some streamers would come find the tuna, but no takers! We had an all-nighter on Monday night, and ate maybe a couple of hundred pounds of the best tuna in the world, seared, grilled, sashimi, curry, ranch, bacon-wrapped, you name it and we ate it. You should have been there!
So, who's going back next year, and how will you make it even better? I don't want you to wait too long before starting your planning! I recommend anything that will bring passers-by into your camp. Could be as simple as a tent full of pillows to rest on, or as ambitious as a playa-bar with a theme, or any refreshing beverage like fresh squeezed lemonade. It makes for great fun and you get to meet a lot of great people.

We will be there... we'll have the shower working next time, along with suspension & bigger tires for Roboshaw.

As for camp interactivity, hmmm. Have to give that some thought....

What a great group!

We had so many fun people and cool Airstreams that sometimes
one end of our shiny trailer park couldn't even see what the other end was up to.

Great potluck, fascinating speakers, never ending food and drink, and wonderful company.
Art and art cars and artsy people and artistic camps and more art.
And then there was the music....oooontz ooontz oooontz...you know what I mean.
It made even the extra piles of playa dust in my Airstream bearable.

It could be summed up as was overheard being uttered by one of our esteemed Airstream collegues describing Black Rock City:
"I love this f***in' town!"

Thanks one and all...good times.

It was a magical time and so wonderful to meet the Airstreamers off the forum and begin to put names to faces - what a resourceful bunch of people and what wonderful times on the playa! There were so many great moments, even in the whiteout Friday night.

I'm looking forward to meeting more 'streamers and getting to know better the ones we just met.

Back in Florida

Whew, finally back from 5 days of driving from Reno to NC. Ed's rig is back home and appears to be no worse for wear, save for a few loose screws.

It was great seeing everyone and sharing something that you can only understand if you were there. In a few days I should have some photos posted. The first will be of our Airstreamers and then I will put up others as I get them processed.

In the meantime I thought you might want to look at these. They are taken by someone from San Francisco that is a BM insider whose photos I have enjoyed for a number of years. Some of them are pretty amazing!

Thanks for the memories.
