For those w/ "contractor" style generators, a plywood sound box (3/4" ply screwed to 2x2 in the corners does wonders - but they're still noisy buggers.

I'd like to keep the truck near the trailer this year; our guests are bringing two 125 W solar panels which will be placed on the roof of our truck to charge the Airstream's batteries. ... that reminds me, I still need to wire that extra truck connector so I can charge through the vehicle charge wiring....

Of course every year is different, but the last couple of years we've had more than enough room to stayed hitched or unhook...whatever you prefer. I stay hooked but I have a small trailer. It all seems to work out. And generators seem to be the least of the noise issues. Best to bring plenty of ear plugs...

I have no preference on being hooked or unhooked. Having our vehicles nearby seems to fit most peoples needs as well as being able to hook up get out without having to bother others. (Small truck, Small Airstream)

And, since everyone seems to be bringing the kitchen sink, yes I have one, is there anything last minute that we need? I'll try to make sure it happens.

Camp Layout Comments

The question to remain hooked or unhooked...??

The primary issues are the "rigs" arriving and departing and the affects to camp layout.

In the suggested layout(s) I did not see a central area or common area, unless the rig layout is independent of the common area. I assumed the layout(s) had an implied "circle the wagons" approach, either mirroring the BM Street layout (semi-circle) or circling the common area.

If we use the unhook approach, my preference is to allow the tow vehicles to be "close" ... since they will contain stored items.

Let me know which layout to use. We plan to leave Reno area early Monday AM (4-5AM) to beat any mid-day heat and dust issues. We're not at Dessert Rose... but willing to caravan if the departure time is sufficiently early.

We're also willing bring any last minute or omitted items... just let us know within reason...

Thanks T&M

Parking

No doubt everyone wants their vehicle close by and I agree. I have a couple of more layouts that are more in line with Zep's drawings. The big difference is that his drawings (I guess Zep is a he, it is non-gender specific name) were based on 150x150. We have been given 250x150, which does not lend itself to a circle very well. These last drawings assume we might be able to grab an extra 50' feet of frontage. The big circle in one of them is Bam's pool (I wish! It is really a 28' dia. tent.) These layouts do allow for late arrival and early departure, save for those on the back row, who could actually leave, but we might have to move some shade structures to allow them out the exit. None of this is set it stone, it is really just to give some food for thought so that when we get there we aren't starting from scratch. Last year we had so much extra room we were waking up with Winnebagos parked in the middle of camp that snuck in while we were sleeping. Somehow, I don't think it is going to be that way this year.

12 days to the burn!

Hi everyone,
I am a new owner of a 76 airstream and I am also going to BM for the first time this year. I am bringing my vintage "chick shack" but will bring the airstream next year. Can I hang with you all even though the airstream is at home?
I am camping in Hushville but would love to meet some of you. Will surf more in this forum but for a quick question answered, where are you located and can I bring a bottle of something to share if you are going to have a meet and greet or a party? I am a wine rep in the real world so not too shabby. Live in Oregon. Going by myself cuz not my husband''s thing. Nice to meet you. Julie aka winebuff

A brief explanation for the recent flurry of parking talk: We will be given 250' of frontage on Baghdad, somewhere near 3:00, by 100 foot deep. Or some address in that vicinity. Divided by how many Airstreams and SOB and Geodesic domes and tents we know that are comeing, and another one Mark just told me to hold space for on Tuesday, doesn't leave a lot of common area. But We'll make it and this will be the coolest one yet! Yeayyyy less that a week!

Just a quick review for if you haven't been back to Mark's sign up page lately:

Since we're searching for it, here's our letter from placement:

WAIT!!! Wrong letter - sorry.

This message is to say thank you for your questionnaire and what you are offering to Burning Man : Metropolis 2010. Welcome to the ancient realm of Babylon - we've left Berlin in the dust!

Airstreameri & Geologists will have reserved placement for 2010. Your general address will be Baghdad & 3:00 and will have a space of 250 x 100. That first dimension is your approximate frontage size and the second is your depth. If your size is different from what you requested, it is because we review size requests, compare them with your maps and interactivity description and adjust accordingly. Sometimes it goes up, sometimes it goes down. Mostly it stays the same general square feet that you requested. We have YEARS of experience in plotting final camp sizes. If your camp has expanded since your questionnaire went in and you need more space you may be out of luck. The time to have told us this information was weeks earlier. You will likely have to look for ways to accommodate the additional folks into your space or look for other creative ways to resolve the expansion. It is nearly impossible at this point to increase your camp dimensions so please, don't ask.

I see that your camp requested 4 early arrival bar codes. You were approved for 4 passes. I will be sending out information on our Early Arrival Bar Code distribution and the general placement process for this year later. Please note: If your ticket is at Will Call- do not arrive before noon on August 25th. That is when the Box Office Will Call opens. Each camper must have their ticket and unique Early Arrival Bar code in hand to enter Black Rock City before our event opens to the general public.

(If you are a camp within a village, department camp, art support camp, etc. - the Placement team is not responsible for providing your Early Arrival Bar Codes)

We are encouraging your advance team to arrive by noon on Sunday, August 29th in order to avoid potential lengthy delays at the Gate.

We want to know when you have arrived on Playa. If your point person arrives before Thursday, August 26th the Gate personnel will radio us. After Thursday, Greeters Station is up and running, and they will radio us. Just let them know you are a "placed Themecamp" and who your placer is. In fact - Tell them EVEN IF THEY DON'T ASK! If your camp is already in, we'll let you know. But if you are indeed the first person to arrive for your camp, we will escort you to the right spot!! We will send out more information on the placement process and Early Arrival passes later.

See you on the playa!

Shadow & BlackJack
Placement Team
Volunteers

And I'm on my way out there for JuPlaya this weekend, if I can ditch work in a couple hours.
PLAN ON!!
Perry

I've just decided, everybody that isn't already doing something and hasn't said hello here anyway, does a geology talk for our community interactive requirement and we'll vote for the most imaginative. There will be a white erase board and pointer sticks.
Still havent found any flasher score cards, can somebody make some..

Various Stuff

I am finally getting my head around BM. Susie, my wife, is not coming because she got a cast on her hand and wrist to stabilize a torn ligament while it heals and playa dust sounds like torture.

I like being unhooked as it allows for a better level. I like to be close enough to my truck to leave the generator in the back. I find that the closed truck shell makes an adequate sound container.

I need to be out of camp first thing (maybe 10) on Sunday because I need to deliver my nephew to the Reno airport Depart: Sun 5-Sep-10 at 4:15 PM.

I am currently shooting for arriving Tuesday afternoon.

Is there room with the group for two-three more trailers/motorhome? Anyone bringing kids? We have and 8 and 10 year old. Trying to determine if we should just try to stay in kidsville. Never been. Thinking of last minute spontaneous "burn"! Thanks
