Hi SR -
we will be arriving monday, leaving as early as we can wake up, from Reno. So I expect we'll be there around noon. We have some extra chairs we can bring, and one of those backyard fire pits that is elevated off the ground. We will have to leave on thursday, as I have been tasked to perform a wedding in the bay area that weekend (mail-order minister

Oh good for the fire pit! I went by one i wanted to pick up at a garage sale, it was gone before I got back for it.
And on parking, last I heard there'll be a 14'high geodesic dome by Zia, and NevadaGold will have a fair sized tent and Mark's nephew will have a 27'sob. Any others out there?

That is extremely nice of you! I'd love to use it, as the shower I have been trying to replace has not panned out :-) Sponge baths are great, but occasionally one needs a REAL shower.

Fire Pit requires Wood

Hi "Air-Burners"

For us to use the fire pit.... we need wood... lets plan for each of us bringing a "few" pieces to "burn".... Yeah...

I can bring a large tarp for the common area shelter, but I don't have stakes or poles to support. Bringing couple of extra chairs too...

Pink Flamingo drinks available when we have our potluck or when the "urge" calls....

We are departing from Reno (the final leg)... our plans are to leave very early Monday AM... anticipate 4-5AM departure... anyone want to caravan from Sparks????

Itching to Burn.... T&M

We're showing up on Monday morning (1 am) w/ a rather embarrassingly large collection:
  1. 45' of Airstream + TV
  2. one additional van (and Prius, but that can be cached elsewhere)
  3. two smallish mutant vehicles ("RoboShaw" and "Hey Wagon"). These get parked at the street boundary....
  4. two 10x10 monkey huts (one is shelter for tent & tools, other is external dining room/social hang space)
  5. one approx. 10x10 Bedouin tent (tent shelter & social space)
  6. 5' x 8' shared shower & evap
We'll be leaving the following Monday.

Dust and temperature reduction protocol?

Ok, folks -

This will be my seventh burn - but my first in a 'stream. How do I manage vents/windows to minimize temps and dust inside? We don't plan on using trailer during the heat of the day but like to sleep in until 10 or 11 after carousing until 4 or 5...

Thanks!

here is a pic of the fire pit - nothing grand, but I don't suppose we will need a huge fire.....

The other Coffman

Ed has already departed NC and is in route. Due to the travel distance it will just be 25' Airstream and about 20' of F250. No other structures.

Close everything! Use AC to maintain interior temps.
I have replaced my screens with insulated panels to keep the heat out, and the dark in. They are just 1/8" plywood with Prodex insulation laminated on one face.
I'm hoping to bring a 4' x 50' roll of Prodex with me for making foil hats for everyone. Maybe even a tinman suit, if I'm feeling ambitious. Anybody have any silver face paint?

I use the blue masking tape to seal windows and keep dust out.
And I cover the upholstery with washable blankets.

Thumbs up Heading out

Rich, we have a bottle of silver face paint, I'll pack it (assuming I can find it)

Were heading out this morning. A stop at the mothership for some parts, north to the Metro-Detroit Rally for a night, cross the bridge and take a left at the UP, MI. 1600 miles later, a few days of hiking at Glacier NP, then off to Fernley, we should be at the 'Rose some time Saturday. Lookin forward to seeing all ya'all. Safe travels and keep the shiny side up.

Our application

Here's a copy of the application that got us placed. Seems to be only the answers, most of the questions were check the box of fill in the number. I think we're doing pretty good on most of the stuff but heckling and rude answers so far but I'm sure we'll get the hang of heckling. Bet you;re glad you didn't ask after reading this:

Interactivity Description:
-------------------------
Interactivity: 20). Interactivity Description: A few geologists will give an
informal interactive talk about local, regional, Nevada, great basin geology,
and other topics. This talk may be an early evening get together, not to
conflict with other established geology presentations. The talks may include
and cover Black Rock playa dust, regional mineral resources, and historical
geology of the area. Or they may have other unrelated topics of extreamly
interesting archeology trips or extremely boring postulating theorium of
lesser Great Basin Extensional Strain and Thrust Faulting Theoriums. Probably
not, Rum application recommended to shut up the theoriumists.
20) Airstream side: Talks may include discussion of polishing aluminum, care
and feeding of Airstream trailers, proper care and feeding of aluminitus
sufferers. Rum application recommended. WBCCI discussions welcome but taken
under advisement, Airstream Airforum members on playa required to visit.
21). Project features: Project features will probably be a circle of bring
your own chairs, with probably a drawing board of some type.
22). Project interactivity: Interactivity will mostly include audience asking
questions, which may not, or may be answered if the talkee knows a plausible
answer. From the list: Education Based, Entertaining, Heckling, Lectures,
Spoken Word, Primarily evening Time.
23) Camp Layout Plan: Geology types on the left, Airstream types on the right,
space in the middle. Attempt to leave access to rear of airstreams for
honeywagon truck.
24) Number of camp mates: Approx __8 geologist types, Approx _15 Airstreamer
types, so 25ish range.

I'm on the road! Stopped now at an Airstream rally with the Oregon Unit (FUN folk), then to the Bay Area, Reno, then on to BRC. See you there. I'm loaded with water, powdered drinks, table & chairs, some art supplies, and baked goods; hitting the liquor store in Nevada. Special requests welcome.

Parking

Wow, it looks like the camp is going to great this year. Based the the number of replies, and if everyone shows up that says they are, my best guess is that we will have roughly 12 Airstreams + 1 Airstream in disguise by the first day, along with miscellaneous shade structures and a couple of art cars. I have toyed with several different arrangements that would allow for later arrivals, early departures, honey wagon access, etc. Some placement will depend on if we have two street frontages or just one. Depending on location, someone may have to roll up their awning to let an Airstream arrive or depart. These are just rough ideas, anyone and everyone's thoughts are welcomed.

A outside the box idea would be that if we are located on the outside part of Baghdad, there is not a theme camp located on the adjacent real estate, which means it is open to anyone. We could "annex" some additional real estate if we felt it was needed.

Good work. I don't mind being packed in. I'm not planning on using the honey bucket truck, but I am planning on leaving a day or two early. The bad news is, I'm dragging along another SOB, which won't arrive until Thursday (it's a long drag line).
