Burning man 2009

Thanks for the input. Just wanted to clarify that the intent is not to get in early but to better understand their process for queing up people wanting to be let in at 12:01 AM Monday.

I recognize that the BM folks appear to do a great job of managing a very complex event in a remote area. I seems like they are generally trying to discourage the horde that historically shows up for the opening in the hope reducing the crush. It just seems that details relating to opening the gate for general attendees is a bit lacking in specifics.

Regardless, I coming to this adventure with a pretty relaxed attitude and will go with the flow.

It's truly amazing if you could watch them take totally bare unmarked playa, survey out streets, with street signs, even street lights and a post office, make a city for 50,000 for a week. Then its all gone with no trace a month later.

Hmm, maybe Wendy and I will be showing up sometime late Monday instead of late Sunday. Still thinking. Really don't want to be stuck in line and we could use the extra day to get everything done before the drive up from Los Angeles.

If so, we would like a nice spot along the road so we can orient with the passenger door/awning towards the interior of the camp and have the generator exhaust/noise pointed out towards the street and away from campmates.

It can be difficult to get a space with everything you want if you arrive after the crush. We had people walking into our theme camp and trying to pitch a tent in the middle of our kitchen. I've heard of another camp where someone put a tent right in front of the door to a trailer and almost got stepped on. We chased out about twenty people last year that I know of. It can get really crazy.
Next go-around you should register as a theme camp and get the early arrival tix for those who can do it. Then you can do your own camp layout ahead of time and place people where it best suits everyone.
Early arrivals are not Sunday, they are Thursday. Our camp is being set up right now! I'm SOOO excited! I've got early arrival tix, and will be there saturday at dawn, if I can drive all night without falling asleep. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone and their Airstreams.
Drive safe,
Rich (the Lost Boy/ Safety Clown

Last year they said people were able to get it before the event (though sketchy)
but once the masses arrived it was impossible.

Yeah, right. The geotech drilling job I was fretting about all week, left before the Temple burn for, IS POSTPONED until an October start. I could still be out there!
Somebody needs to invent a Hepa filter something that can filter out the silt to clean air, so we can pressurize our rigs with clean air. Lots of times we don't need to run the AC if we just had a way for clean air coming in, instead of the opaque air.
Anyway, I'm home safe and got the post burn depression already.

Perry - I have plans for just such a machine. Perhaps I should build it for next year because we got dusted out!
We had a wonderful dinner Monday evening with Mark and the crew. We actually drove from the 3:00 plaza where we were out to 2:30 & E in our 345 with all the awnings still out, bins open and all. Boy! People were freaking out at that! Hey, we were just going to dinner! No need to roll all that stuff up when you are going to go 5 miles an hour.
On the way home a BRC Ranger ran a half a block to flag us down to let us know that we forgot to roll our up our awnings. We laughed and repeated that we were just returning from dinner! I guess you had to be there but we were having a blast!
