Drat!

this is very painful for us, but we had some unforeseen CRUD come up and had to sell our BM tix - as such we have to back out a-frikken-gain. DANG KIDS (both the genetic kind and the ones that work at our restaurant)

wishing everyone a safe and soulful burn -

Its hard to believe Its almost time to head out to Black Rock City. I was hoping to spend a bit more time on this forum so you all could get to know us a little better but all we have been doing all summer, it seems is drilling and riveting. We have just completed a rear end lift and a total bathroom makeover. So forgive me if, when we meet, my handshake is a bit stiff.
We will be camped with a, mostly, Las Vegas bunch at "Sin City" and should be parked on 7:00 in between The Esplanade and A. (the ear plugs are already packed). We have a 69 Overlander, with shiny new hubcaps and a perky rear end.

It will be nice to meet you all.

Burning man 2009

I have been receiving the weekly BM e-mails from Will Chase regarding this years event. The most recent one had a warning about early arrivals suggesting that anyone who arrives prior to 12:01 AM Monday could end up being delayed longer than if they show up afterwards.

This is my first year but I am going with friends who have been several times. In the past, they showed up early Sunday evening and were placed in "D" lot where vehicles could que up for entry once the gates open.

Are any of you aware of how this years "warning" compares to previous years? It would seem that any event that has a published gate opening time must allow someway for attendees to que up prior to the gates opening. I suspect that is what D-lot is for. My friend says they were put in lines much the way one would wait for a ferry on Puget Sound.

If one truly did not want any early arrivals, you would have people waiting out on the side of the highways and side roads in route with a mad dash at midnite to the playa.

I am aware that some think it is better to head in just prior to dawn Monday morning rather than the dark. Sounds like a good option but am interested in feedback from anyone who has had experience going in when the gates open, since my collegues are wanting to go that route.

Thanks,

TK

My take on that early bird gets last thing means: You get to the gate too early, they turn you around and send you back toward the highway. They've got divided lanes up, so you can't turn around again and head for the gate. So you get back to the start of the divided lanes, meanwhile a zillion others are doing the same thing behind you and a head of you. Sort of like musical chairs. Then the sadists at the gate opens it at the magic hour and somebody happens to be at the head of the line at the right minute, somebody else is a few minutes too early and it'll be a couple hours to get to the gate. I haven't had the pleasure of D lot yet. Just my take on what that meant.

Tuesday I was in Fernley doing some work at the Valley Joist shop, while heading back to Reno I coulda swore I saw me going towards the burn with an Excella just like mine. Grr, I gotta work the rest of this week until I can be going that way. More compaction testing tomorrow, not sure what they got me doing Friday.

Theme camps get early arrival. My camp mates are entering anytime SUNDAY...They have, of course, early passes available to theme camps (We're obnoXious)...My suggestion is to advertise on craigslist or the BM forums for an extra pass. My camp gets 4, but only 2 are being used. Sorry I can't help on the extras, they're spoken for already. BTW, you won't be let in early if you don't have a pass (this is my 7th year)...

I'm going to look up the Airstream Forum camp sometime Friday or Saturday...Looking forward to meeting you guys!

It's hard enough to find your camp and set up in the day time.
I wouldn't want to try it in the dark or get stuck in a lot somewhere.
But the important thing is just to get there!

Happy and safe travels everyone.

See ya on the playa!

An early pass wont help if everyone in the car/truck does not have one. I went in early last time and still waited for hours so...it's like BAM said ...just get there, stay patient and happy and who knows, maybe the fun starts with the journey out!
(not to mention all the prep. My Silverstreak is still not home (Stan is working on her at his place) and I still don't know for sure if she will be ready...

Hope I get to meet a lot of you!
