Interstate 44 campgrounds near Rolla?

We're planning to take Interstate 44 over to Springfield, MO and then head south to Compton Ridge. We want to break the drive up into two days and Rolla, MO would be a good point for us to stop. Does anyone have any campground recommendations around Rolla? We were considering Arlington River Resort in Newburg, MO. Reviews say that the road to it from the Interstate is rough. Did the "mini" rally happen last Labor Day -- does anyone have any observations to share about Arlington River Resort -- or other places to consider? Thanks!

Mac,

Are you planning on heading to Compton Ridge earlier than the rally start date? We plan to go down Wednesday. If you are going early, then you are welcome to courtesy park here at our home and we can head out together. We are about 4 hours from Branson. Rolla is 2 hours from Branson. Arlington River resort is one of the only places to really "Stay" in ROlla.

Steve

Smile campgrounds near Rolla

Thanks for the very generous offer. We will be heading South mid-morning on Wednesday, and are too far away to have you wait for us before leaving for Branson. If we had any problems on the way, you would not be able to stay with your timetable.

We do appreciate your kindness and consideration, especially with all your recent trials and tribulations. We are looking forward to meeting you and all the other rallyers, seeing all the other trailers, and enjoying great food and camaraderie.

Laird and Nancy

Cool camping near rolla

cant you camp or park at the maramac caverans? its near Rolla i think,
me and the wife stopped in there on are way home from St loius one time and it looked like an ok place. rustic and there's a creek near the cavren.
but from what i remember it was a ways off I44 on a curvy road .
it was kinda expensive to go throught the cave but what do you expect from a tourist trap

You can camp at Meremac State Park, but Oslow is correct in his description of it. Are you just looking for a spot to stay overnight, or do you plan to stay for the day? If you only need a spot to camp, you could boondock at a rest stop along the way as well.

There are Walmarts at both the Sullivan and Rolla exits that welcome overnight campers. We'll look forward to meeting you in Branson for the Rally.

I have the first weekend of April on my calendar but it seemed several folks were making their travel plans.
Before I loose any sleep I thought I should confirm the rally dates.

I was just asked if a Vintage section was planned. I didn't know but it's something to think about.

We all bleed silver. No distinct sections are planned for this event, and we will be cobbled together.
