Notes from the bash:

The Tote Races had to be postponed. The race promoter never appeared and rumor has it that he was seen at the cage in the casino up the road trying to hock a "valuable, collectable" blue tote - saying it used to belong to Elvis. That's the way it goes I guess, and maybe it's a good thing - now we have another year to wrench on our tote and get it just perfect...

Saturday morning, a couple of little kids and their dad were walking through the G loop and one of the kids asked about the shiny trailers (obviously NOT looking at ours). The dad said "they belong to the pink flamingo camping club" The little girl asked "can we join" and the dad said "No, we don't have a flamingo..."

The raccoons at the park were aggressive and needed some management. They roam the park in unruly bands, scaring small kids, befouling picnic table and uncorking innocent bottle of merlot. At our site they raped several pumpkins, repeatedly and with great glee. It was sad. Campcollector has set a new standard in campground hobbies.... Treeing raccoons! At one point he had 4 in one tree, unfortunately, they were in a tree over MY TRAILER! How much do you suppose a coon weighs? Do they ever let go?

Procedures for treeing coons:
1. Build bon fire and heat tip of steel water key (javelin shaped device w/prongs on end) in fire until red hot.
2. Set delicious food on picnic table.
3. Wait for band of varmints to appear.
4. Grab hot poker and run through the woods, poker held high (spear style)yelling "not in my campsite......" or "look another politician...." Be sure that the glowing hot tip is pointed forward.
5. Herd raccoons toward a tree (pick one far away from a trailer if possible).
6. Now heres the tricky part. If the pack splits and runs up several trees, throw the hot poker up into the tree until the coons abandon it to join their buddies in "the safe tree". Repeat the process until all the raccoons are in one tree.
7. Now kick the tree trunk hard (let the ranger do this to avoid getting a tree abuse citation) and drive the coons high up into tree. Remind the coons of their position on the food chain and cover your head as they remind you of yours.
8. Walk away and have the last word (thus saving face) saying "crap on my trailer and you'll regret it..." This is a good parting shot only if the coons are in fact not in a tree over your trailer. If they are hanging over your trailer, you probably shouldn't further enrage them and you will need to improve your technique through repeated attempts, later in the evening.

When we left on Monday, I stopped at the ranger station - there was a fellow checking out, asking about the raccoon season... and were guns allowed or just spears. Do they sell them at the front booth?

We had a great time! Campcolllector arranged for 2 huge fire rings, Druupy brought a huge load of seasoned alder, we burned it all weekend in tandem fires. Folks contributed food and labor, the scullery crew cleaned unspeakable pots and the weekend just flew by. I seem to have a magic merlot rack in my trailer, it kept filling up! We tried (hard) to empty it, but new, full bottles just kept arriving as well as one stellar bottle of Bordeaux.

Sunday, we had BLT's for lunch under a sunny tree (yes the rain was brief) with garden tomatoes, fresh arugala and a lovely bottle of white wine.

About bacon: We had bacon from the 4 corners of the US. 2air brought fabulous smokey bacon from great distances and there were local varieties as well. we had planned a vertical tasting at Breakfast but the crowd was too undisciplined, preferring to just "be surprised". I lost count at 15 LBS but think that we probably cooked close to 30....
And about cooking: We were honored to have a retired short order cook in our midst who cooked our French toast to perfection! I Love rallies - they just fall together!
Finally; on coffee: The Pacific northwest is not the only great coffee producer in the country. 2air graced campers with cans of wonderful, memorable coffee ..... mmm, caffene....

Some other cool things happened. Last year JDL came by to look at Airstreams, this year he came back with his own!
SUtton RV donated great prizes including a trailer hitch cover and cash certificates for service and parts.
The forums donated stickers and everyone donated great food!

I still smell like bacon.... how about you?

Addendum to coon treeing directions:

Another well tested method of herding raccoons involves employing pepper spray. This was tried several times with good results.... however as it drove away all the people the raccoons came DOWN the trees rather quickly.

We second everyone's comment. It was a terrific rally. We only wish it had been longer so that we could have had more time to visit with everyone. How 'bout a week long rally next time. If only we had the time...darn work gets in the way.

The token "Yurt Dwellers" enjoyed meeting everyone. We're trying to figure out how many trailers we can fit in their field for a Napa Wine Country Rally.

All I can say is wow ! What a great rally !
Thanks Janet and Gary for putting this together once again.
Thanks to Druupy for the load of firewood !
Thanks to 2air for the great coffee, the bacon variety and oh those stuffed mushrooms !
Thanks to Campcollector for the fire rings !
Thanks to everyone else who contributed in their own special way or just just by showing up !

It was great to see old friends and the new faces as well. I enjoyed chatting with everyone I met.

Keep up the good work on those projects everyone. I look forward to seeing the finished product on those vintage units.

How is it that I came home with more bacon than I left with ? Very strange. I think I gained at least 5 lbs at this rally. Does this mean that Airstream Rallies are fattening ? Yikes ! I hope not. Maybe I should have gone on that jog with Mark and Mona instead of drinking 2air's coffee .

The Raccoons were a nuisance, most definitely, next year I am bringing a tazer ! Maybe I'll just put a plate of beer out and get them all drunk !

Next year I hear that I have been elected head of the lighting committee by JH. Since I ended up with all the lights for the dining tents in my truck ! No problem, that sort of thing is right up my alley.

I must apologize for not getting the tote race up and going. I got sidetracked with trailer tours and great conversation ! Plus if I had gotten up before 10 am I could have notified the masses, my bad. I think someone caught me doing a trial run with their camera too.

Onto the future, I am planning the Newport Seafood and Wine Fest Rally again next year at South Beach State Park. I will post a separate thread about it.

Now is that it for NW rallies this year or are we going to have another ?

We got Video!!!

Let the festivities begin.
A short but to the point ceremony, to officially open the BBB3.

http://www.kitsaplumber.com/Airstream/BBB3fire.wmv

It was a good time.

And 2air, Erin LOVES the coffee, "it's the best."

P.S. the video was longer, but was trimmed to protect the innocent.

well bashers...

what a great time we had!

i finally pulled out on tuesday....

a visit to the local vet for a bacon fat level, suggested i was finally safe for travel...

monday afternoon, 3 more airstreams pulled in and asked...
"was there a rally here" and 'can we play with the racoons too?"

"they are all yours now, or should i say....you are theirs" and "happy halloween" was my reply...

i was so great to come back out for my first bash, and to see all the silver falls folks again...

and make new friends...around a primo campfire!

oh and see darols coon skin hat...yodle a hee hooooooo....

janet and janet's husband did such a great job of feeding us...do they have carry out?

this rally may need a bigger loop next time...

salmon you say? put me down for some steelhead too!

cheers

About time I replied.....

Cheryl and I had a stupendous time! We got some walks on the beach with "Gigi" and I had my bacon fix for the year.....thanks Marc for cooking that up! I got a Kansas hat from 2air......which.....in the colors.....could be construed to be from KU........a rival to K-State! I may dye it purple! I volunteered to be "campcollector" for Janet and Gary....who put out $1000 for this event! The plus for this job is that I got to meet all who hadn't paid......the negative.......none, because everyone paid! We've attended all three BB rallys..........so we knew most folks......and I'm pleased to announce some new friends who I even had the opportunity to jam with.......thanks Lauren, Janet and Gary!
JDL.....glad you got your tanks recalibrated......now you can do mine!
We even had left-over Stew for Tuesday lunch.....thanks Gary and Janet......yum!
As for 2air........we apologize for not staying around on Monday......we hope you got out of Oregon OK..........we took off about 10am Monday......we were supposed to help you with your route......but you were nowhere to be found! We enjoyed your insights on forum's business.....and the coffee is great! We both enjoyed the KU-K-State wins that weekend in FB........as well as OSU's win over USC........but when it comes to the KU-K-State game later......well......go Cats!
We enjoyed seeing numerous vintage units.....including Rick's 61......I didn't know you were are short order cook........I'm curious to see how it turns out! Also Janetbjt's Bambi.......I'm glad you attended........where's Anita! Butch and Beth........you are both incredible........maybe I can find a unit to send to Africa from you! Don and Claudia.......you are both the best........thanks for sharing your experiences with your Bambi.....and art!
Mona and Marc........where was the kick-boxing? I trained especially for that routine....but I hear that the CD wasn't on-board the Argosy........guess I'll have to wait till next year!
Mike Murphy......I tried to hook you up with Norcal Bambi on your FC........I can't wait to see that vintage unit!
Dave and Franci........we enjoyed visiting your TW and see you are enjoying your trailer.......thanks for the purchase!
JDL.....glad you got your tanks recalibrated........mine are next!
Mark Wiltrakis..........where the helll were you......you're retired.......no excuse for you.....unless you were fishing!
Annie Dear and Wynn......too bad you dumped your grey tanks during the drawing after dinner.......you missed a prize!
I'll post some pics later........to draw this thiing out till next year!

Thanks again to Janet and Gary for being WagonMistress/Mr for this rally!
You are the Best.......of course we know that by now!

BTW.......Chris makes some mean screwdrivers if he announces "open bar"!

Making plans for the next rally I can attend.
Is the date set for this years Beverly Beach bash? I wanted to attend last year but I ended upside down in a ditch.

Hi Michelle, Well it is usually in October. I don't think that things have been decided yet. Keep an eye out for the thread.
